Swimsuits usually have a lot of elastication and stretch over time, and when wet, so if you're right between two sizes, you're likely safe going small.

A. Ideally, you should choose your exact size. If you are in between sizes, we generally recommend going up, particularly if you have a large bust or a long torso. If you feel like you can't choose your exact size in a swimsuit, you may be selecting the wrong style.

A properly fitting swimsuit should fit closely against your body. Bunching at the seams or tightness and pulling at the straps and openings usually indicates an incorrect size. You should be able to move freely without causing the neck or leg openings of the suit to stretch.

Swimsuits will be less tight when they're wet and will lose elasticity over time, so that smaller size will stretch out. Essentially, as long as it's comfortable, size down when you're faced with this dilemma.

As we are all different shapes, you may find that you need to try a few different sizes to find the perfect fit. If you feel you need more room in your swimsuit, we suggest going up a chest size and then down a size in the cup, this will help to keep the size balanced (see above).

Should you size up or down to find your perfect fit? This is a hard one, and it really comes down to personal preference. As a general rule, we'd advise you to go for your usual bra size when you're buying a bikini or swimming costume, at least as a starting point.

To find the swimsuit that's right for you, measure yourself with a tape measure. You can also use your lingerie size as a reference. Finally, keep in mind that different countries have different measurement charts. To know which swimsuit size to choose, refer to the European or French regulations in force.

Look at a size up or a different cut in the same size. They're generally stretchy but that alone isn't always enough to be comfortable. The signs that a swimsuit is too small are too much skin showing, the fabric pulling, and tugging, or the fabric being too tight.

Age: Swimsuits, like all clothing, can become stretched out and lose their shape over time. The older the swimsuit, the more likely it is to sag.

Your Straps Fall or Dig

If your straps are constantly falling, that means one of two things: either the swimsuit is too big, in which case you need to size down, or the swimsuit is old and stretched out, in which case you need to replace it.

If you are using a swimsuit that is made from cotton or wool, then it may shrink in the wash. There may be some natural fabric bikinis still being sold today. The great majority modern swimwear is polyester or nylon, and does not shrink or fade in the wash or in chlorine.

It elongates the body, making it look taller and slimmer. This makes the high waisted swimsuit bottom ideal for any body type and suits any age. Many women face undesired waist fat on the midsection. A high waist bikini bottom helps to hide this fat, making your body look toned and make it appear slimmer.

How do swimsuit sizes work? They are based on your bust, waist, and hip measurements. If you've never had your bra size taken, it's easy to do on your own. Bust: Measure under your arms at the fullest part of your bust, and keep the measuring tape level across.

So, the recommendation is to wash your swimsuit by hand after each wear. And if you can't do that, at least rinse it with clean water after each wear.

Bikinis got tighter and smaller in the '60s and even one-piece suits became more revealing. In the mid-60s, low-cut swimsuit bottoms became more popular and the bikini continued to gain traction. These suits were mostly made out of Lycra or Nylon, making them more fitted and tight.

If the swimsuit you're looking at uses numbered sizes, these will correspond at least roughly to the size of your pants or dresses. Even if they don't match up exactly, they'll give you some idea.
