The kids of Modern Family really are all grown up!
Wednesday's episode ofABC's familysitcom saw the eldest Dunphy child,Haley (Sarah Hyland), and her beauDylan (Reid Ewing) get married, five months after her pregnancy was revealedand 10 years after they started dating in the pilot episode.
Though Haley had rejected Dylan's many proposals before, this time she popped the question and suggested they elope before she gives birth. However, her plans to have a simple courthouse wedding with her sister, Alex (Ariel Winter), as witness quickly turned into a family affair with Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil (Ty Burrell) looping in Luke (Nolan Gould), Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), Cameron (Eric Stonestreet), Gloria (Sofia Vergara), Jay (Ed O'Neill) and more on the big bash.
In true Modern Family fashion, their plans quickly derailed, leading Claire to finally give Haley her blessing to leave her family behind and elope as she had previouslyplanned. By then, Haley realized she just couldn't get hitchedwithout her parents.
"We didn't go through with it. We were at this 24-hour chapel and they called our names, but something about it just didn't feel right," Haley declared, waking up Claire and Phil in the middle of the night. "That's why I'm here. I thought about what you had said about how I should have the wedding that I want. The wedding that I want has you guys there."
The whole Dunphy family -- and Dylan's mom -- then gathered in the family living room for a candle-lit wedding, with Phil officiating.
"So, by the powers vested in me by NoPainOrdain.com, I pronounce you, Dylan, and you, Haley, husband and wife," he proudly said as Haley and Dylan sealed their marriage with a kiss.
Modern Family, currently in its 10th season, will return for its11th and final season this fall, ABC confirmedin February.
New ABC Entertainment President Karey Burkealso addressed reports of a possibleModern Familyspinoff."I would love that. No one would be happier if there were one," she said at the time. "This next year, from what I hear, is all about -- they have big plans. There are some surprises and big milestones coming. They intend to really, really go out big."
"So, it would be terrific if a spinoff were part of that, but I haven't heard anything yet," Burke added.
