The DCH Rule simply means, you can dress up a casual look by moving one step forward/backward i.e. to a smart casual before moving to a business casual. But you can’t dress down a Tuxedo [Formal Attire] by pairing the jacket with a chinos or jeans, that's jumping more than 2 steps (in fact, you will be making a 5-step jump) in the dress code hierarchy.
By pairing a Tuxedo Jacket with a suit pant, you will be going from Formal (step 1) to Informal (step 3) therefore you aren't breaking any Style Rule.
However, you must know that this outfit pairing or combination is still not appropriate for a work environment. Wearing a Tuxedo/Suit Pant combo to work is a non-stylish move, guaranteed to create a big fashion blunder.
Here is how to pull off a Tuxedo/Suit Pant Look:
- The suit pant can either be black or midnight blue – the only acceptable colors for a black tie event - traditionally speaking.
