A) General rules and Eligibility
Foreign citizens going to Brazil for one of the purposes below must be in possession of a “Temporary Work Visa”:
– professionals under an employment contract, based on Normative Resolution 02/2017;
– qualified professionals required to perform technical assistance to a Brazilian company by virtue of contract or agreement with a foreign company, based on Normative Resolution 03/2017;
– qualified professionals required to perform technology transfer to a Brazilian company by virtue of contract or agreement with a foreign company, based on Normative Resolution 04/2017;
– ship crewmembers working on a foreign cruise operating in Brazilian jurisdictional waters without any employment contract with a Brazilian company, based on Normative Resolution 05/2017;
– ship crewmembers working on foreign vessels or platforms, based on Normative Resolution 06/2017;
– professionals traveling to render service to the Brazilian Government, based on Normative Resolution 07/2017;
– professionals under an international cooperation agreement, based on Normative Resolution 08/2017;
– professionals authorized to represent a financial institution or similar entity established abroad, based on Normative Resolution 09/2017;
– professionals authorized to represent a nonprofit organization or institution, based on Normative Resolution 10/2017;
– news correspondents, as well as members of foreign government or commercial press agencies, based on Normative Resolution 17/2017;
– professionals being trained in the Brazilian branch/subsidiary/headquarters or in a company that belongs to the same economical group he/she works for, based on Normative Resolutions 18/2017 and 19/2017;
– professional athlete or sports person hired by a Brazilian team/club/company/institution, based on Normative Resolution 21/2017;
– ship crewmembers working on foreign fishing vessels rented by Brazilian companies, based on Normative Resolution 22/2017;
– internship intermediated by a recognized professional exchange program institution, for university students or those graduated within twelve months before the application, based on Normative Resolution 26/2017.
Attention!Crewmembers of a vessel calling from a foreign dock into a Brazilian dock and then off to a foreign dock again do not need a Temporary Work Visa as long as they bear theirSeafarers' Identity Document, issued according to ILO Convention 185(documents enabling their “positive verifiable identification”). Likewise, crewmembers of a vessel that has received authorization for charter in coastal shipping for up to 30 days do not need a Temporary Work Visa as long as they bear theirSeafarers' Identity Document.
The application procedure for a Temporary Work Visa is initiated from Brazil by the Brazilian sponsoring company with thesubmission of the application and supporting documentsto theMinistry of Justice and Public Security (“Ministério da Justiça e Segurança Pública” – MJ). Once authorization has been granted and subsequently received by the Embassy, the applicant may submit the appropriate documentation for issuance of the visa.
Note:The application process fortechnical assistance(based on Normative Resolution 03/2017) has three different possible procedures at the Ministry of Justice and Public Security: regular (processed in normal time frame), simplified (processed in up to 5 days) or simplified based on emergency (processed in up to 2 days).

B) Length of stay in Brazil
Visas are issued for up to 1 (one) year, counted from the day of issue.
Residence authorizationis given by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
Within 90 (ninety) days of arrival in Brazil, bearers of work visas must register with the Brazilian Immigration authorities (Polícia Federal – DPMAF) in the place where the applicant intends to take up residence. The applicant should present the copy of the visa application form, provided upon collection of the visa at the Embassy.
C) Required documents
1)Applicant’s passport,valid for no less than 6 months, with at least two blank pages. Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes. Together with the passport please bring one copy of its relevant pages. If you have been to Brazil before, make sure to bring your used visa to our Embassy.
2)One recent photo, 3 x 4 cm, in color, front view, white background and taken within 6 (six) months. Low quality photos will not be accepted. Please clickherefor photo specifications.
3) Onevisa application formper applicant, completely filled out online, printed and signed by the passport holder or his/her parents/guardians (parents must sign for minors under 18 years old). The application form is found athttps://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br (you will need to print only the receipt page with the bar code, sign it and glue the photo).
4) Valid original police record (Surat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian), apostilledby the Directorate of Central Authority and International Law of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Direktorat OPHI).
- Applicants who have lived in other/multiple countries within the last 12 months must provide a police record from each of those countries. They must also be duly apostilled or legalized by the respective Brazilian consular authority with jurisdiction over these countries, and translated by a sworn translator, if necessary.
5) Original birth certificate (Akta Kelahiran) issued by the Registry Office (Pencatatan Sipil), apostilledby the Direktorat OPHI. Copies presented without the original must also be apostilled.
Notes
- Consular officers will only receive applications from applicants who are able to comply with all the requirements presented above.
- Please notice that this Embassyonly accepts visa applications once the applicant has uploaded his/her photograph, signature and other documents through the online form(https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br). All documents must be scanned and attached to the online form.Otherwise, it will not be possible for this Embassy to accept the visa application.
- After filling out the online form, it will continue to be mandatory to present these documents for the verification of the consular authority, on the day of attendance at the Embassy. Please bring the originals of these documents, plus a set of ordinary copies.
- Consular officers may request additional information or documentation as deemed necessary. Personal interview may also be necessary.
- Unlesspresented personally, the consular service will not process visas of applicants who do not reside in its consular jurisdiction,i.e., Indonesia.
D) Visa fees

The visa fee must be paid by deposit into the Embassy's consular account at BCA. Payment slips may be obtained at the Embassy, and payment must be preferably made on the day which the service is requested.
E) Lodging your application
Application must besubmitted to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security in Brazilby the sponsoring institution or company in Brazil. Note thatall foreign documents submitted with the petitionmust be apostilled.
Only after approval by the Ministry of Justice and Public Securityin Brazil will the Ministry of Foreign Relations authorize processing the visa. Once approval has been received, bring the duly completed and signed application receipt and the supporting documentation to our Embassy during public hours.
Applications can be lodged in person or through an authorized third party (relative/friend/visa agent).
This Embassy does not accept visa applications by mail.
F) Processing times
When lodging in person: allow a minimum of 5 working days.
When lodging through a visa service company: allow between 10 to 15 working days.
For groups of more than 10 applications a longer processing time may be required.
Under no circ*mstances will visas be issued on the same day.
