One of the biggest moments that you’ll remember fromThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4 is Lenny talking some sense into Midge. All season, Midge had made a point that she was done being an opening act, and that meant turning down a gig opening for Tony Bennett, which Lenny had secured for her.
He was mad. She was running from a great career because she was scared of failing again. He decided it was time for her to pull on her big girl panties and go for it.
And while that is fresh in your mind, their earlier tryst will also come up. After years of pent-up sexual frustration, the two hooked up. That’s when Midge found something in Lenny’s bathroom.
Well, what Midge found was something we already had a sense of. It was his hard drug stash. Midge saw the big problem that Lenny had, but she couldn’t talk to him about it.
Those who know the real story of Lenny Bruce will know that he died of a drug overdose when he was just 40. He suffered from alcoholism and drug abuse, which got worse the more and more he was blacklisted for his comedy. This is something the TV series has touched on but not really shown too much of. That was until Midge found his hard drug stash in his bathroom.
Now Midge knows that his drug abuse is serious. The question is whether she will do anything about it. Will she bury her head in the sand and hope for the best? Will she try to be there for him as he continues to push her name in lights? We know Lenny is back, but Luke Kirby is no longer a series regular so it’s not easy to tell just how many episodes we’ll have him for.
