This post has several parts:

How do you feel about wearing a shirt of a band or artist at another different artist's concert?

What are some funny combos have you seen? E.g. Grateful Dead shirt at a NWA concert (I haven't actually seen this.)

Is it lame to wear a matching shirt for the concert you are at?

-------------------------------------------

I am going to see Aesop Rock tonight, and was just thinking about what to wear. I have an Aesop shirt, a Sage Francis shirt, and a Steel Pulse shirt, and I can't make a decision.

I've always considered it a little gauche to wear a band t-shirt to one of their own gigs.

I have no shame over wearing one band t-shirt to another band's gig. It's not like they care, is it.

I wore my New Order t -shirt to the Muse gig last week and I was sitting front and center so, if they were going to see it, they would of. And they didn't say anything, so I assume it was ok

Mind you I did look around and think, wow my T-shirt is older than a lot of the kids here...

I used to go to rock shows almost weekly back in college. My friends and I considered it faux pas to wear the band's shirt to the same band's concert. It's like, "We know you like Built to Spill dude, you're at the concert."

Also, we would never listen to the band's music on the drive over to their concert. Sometimes we would be waiting outside in line before going inside the venue and a car would roll up pumping the music of the band that was about to play inside. That's just redundant.

You've seen Mustard Plug live? I'm jealous...

Back on topic... it's always pretty tricky with the shirt thing. Festivals make it pretty easy, because you can wear a shirt representing the band you most want to see, but headliners are a bit different.

Personally, at headliners, I tend to wear a related shirt (at the Red Hot Chili Peppers show I went to in March, I wore a Pearl Jam shirt) but not one for the band that's playing.

Here's the trick:

Where whatever you want. It's not like anyone's gonna get offended. Well, unless that's the point

Anyway, don't worry about what others are doing, just be yourself. If you want to wear the tshirt you bought 30 seconds before in the lobby, that's your business. If you want to wear a gay bikers on acid shirt at an amy grant concert, that's also your business.

This topic is more of a fashion topic rather than music related.
If you really want to stand out at a rock concert, wear a speedo and a Sex Pistols shirt.

First, wearing a certain band's shirt to another's concert is fine. Most of the time when you see a rock band perform live, even THEY are wearing another band's shirt. It's stupid to think that just because you like one band, you can't like any others. If anything, I think the shirt you wear says something about you. For example, if you go to a Metallica concert wearing a Slayer shirt, people would probably think you are a pure metalhead. However, if you went to that same Metallica concert wearing a Steely Dan or Eminem t-shirt, people would probably think you have very broad musical tastes.

As for wearing band's shirt to their own concerts, I don't see anything wrong with that. It shows you are really into that band, and possibly shows how long you've been a fan. For example, when I went to see Rush live, there were some younger people in plain clothes and shirts from recent tours, but there were also some older people wearing shirts from tours they did back in the 70's and 80's, so you could tell they were long-time fans.

Not always true. Don't wear a Lynard Skynard shirt to a Ramallah show.

I love watching what people wear at shows though. So many people wear what they wear to make a statement, especially at metal shows.

Bands don't mind at all if you wear another bands' shirt to their show. They would be crazy to be offended by it, and probably share your musical interests. If you like their music, and they like their music, then probably you see eye to eye on more than just one band's sound.

Yea.. I HATED it when people want to listen to the band they're going to see right before the concert.

If it's a "big" concert, I usually avoid their music for a few weeks before.

I like listening to Slayer before a concert. Except if it's Slayer, but I've only seen them once.

I tend to wear the band's T-shirt at the shows I go to, but it's only because I've just bought the damn thing and usually don't want to hold onto it all night (depends on the show - potential for holding onto it decreases as rowdiness goes up). You could wait until the end of the show before you buy, sure, but I don't look good in the last remaining pink "baby-t".

It depends. Some combernations are liable to get you killed - EG. meagerdeath tee shirt at a metalia concert. Others are inadvisable like the latest comercial rap persons tee shirt at any metal gig. If wearing the bands tee shirt it's far cooler to turn up in an old and faded one that one bought at the venue.

Last gig I went to I wore multiple tee shirts when faced with such a predicament which is not advised as you overheat!
