Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s loving, long-time friendship – from hanging with their squad including Gigi Hadid and Haim, to the Eras songstress’ business collabs with Ryan Reynolds
The idea that real besties never take pics together couldn’t be more true for Hollywood titans and long-time pals, Taylor Swift and Blake Lively.
Despite having a seemingly unbreakable bond, these two ladies are notoriously private about their personal lives – and that extends to their friendship. The pair have consistently shielded their meet-ups from the media, but once in a while the paparazzi manage to catch them at the right time and place.
Last weekend, the superstar blondes were seen on a night out at private club Zero Bond in New York City. The rare sighting set the internet alight, with fans obsessing over their signature styles and the confirmation of their long-standing friendship. Lively sported a denim jacket with a colourful tweed skirt and Chanel bag, while Swift went for a classic black cardigan and pleated miniskirt.
Here’s how they’ve remained true friends through it all.
Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s supportive fans
According to People, the singer, 33, and actress, 36, first crossed paths in 2015, when Lively referenced Swift’s song “Bad Blood” in a caption for a L’Oréal campaign.
The Gossip Girl star is a long-time Swiftie and continued to show her support for the “Anti-Hero” songstress over the years, even before they became friends. In one of their first public interactions, Lively wrote on Instagram: “Love my Canadian family almost as much as I love Taylor Lively. I mean Swift. OK, fine, we can hyphenate our last names. XO Blake Swift-Lively 4eva.”
She and hubby Ryan Reynolds have since attended plenty of Swift’s concerts. In a “73 Questions” interview on Vogue’s YouTube channel, Swift said she wished she could “raid” Lively’s fashionable wardrobe.
Bestie holidays
In 2015, the two A-listers took their friendship to the next level by hanging out in Queensland, Australia, where they cuddled koalas, visited Warner Bros. Movie World theme park and literally jumped for joy, as seen in pics.
Working together
Swift has a lucrative music empire, while Reynolds and Lively are rumoured to become Hollywood’s next billionaire power couple thanks to their own impressive business dealings.
But how have the two parties worked with and helped each other? Swift turned to Lively for help with her “I Bet You Think About Me” music video. “I finally got to work with the brilliant, brave and wickedly funny @blakelively on her directorial debut. Join us as we raise a toast, and a little hell,” Swift captioned an announcement on Instagram.
Reynolds has also showed his admiration for the songstress, using one of Swift’s re-records of “Love Story”, pre-release, for a Match.com advert through his production company Maximum Effort, per NME. The Deadpool star also made a cameo on Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video, and she returned the favour with a post promoting Reynold’s Aviation Gin at a party.
Hanging out with the kids
Swift spends plenty of time with Lively and Reynolds’ kids – all four of them. From using their daughter James’ voice in “Gorgeous” and naming one of her songs “Betty” after their third child, Swift shows her love for her besties’ little ones subtlety through her award-winning music.
In May, during her Philadelphia show as part of The Eras Tour, Swift shared: “There are a few of the characters [in the song ‘Betty’] that I actually, fun fact, named after real people in my life who I love more than anything,” she said. “And their names are James, Inez and Betty.”
Parties and outings
Being part of Swift’s squad means Lively and Reynolds have exclusive access to her high-profile events and parties. The trio have been spotted celebrating the Fourth of July together (with Swift’s then-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston), attending Swift’s 30th birthday party, and heading out for dinners on the town.
“It” girl squad
Swift’s “squad” may not be as obvious as it used to be, but it’s clear that Lively and the “Blank Space” singer still count plenty of celebs among their tight-knit circle.
Gigi Hadid happens to be one of them, as are all three Haim sisters: Alana, Danielle and Este, as seen in an April outing after Swift’s shock split from Joe Alwyn.
