Sustainability
Kering’s commitment to sustainability stems from a profound belief. It is also a source of inspiration and innovation. The 2025 Sustainability Strategy targets are also opportunities to create value for the Group, the Houses, their customers, and society as a whole.
Sustainability and innovation
Innovation is integral to Kering’s sustainability policy. In 2013, for example, Kering founded the MaterialInnovation Lab, which provides the Group’s Houses with more than 3,000 sustainable fabric and textile samples. The Group is also partnering with theFashion for Good - Plug andPlay Acceleratorfor start-ups to drive disruptive innovation and make materials and processes more sustainable.
Kering Standards
To guide the Houses and their suppliers in their efforts to achieve the 2025 Sustainability Strategy targets, Kering has established environmental and social requirements known as the Kering Standards. The outcome of several years of research conducted internally, with the Group’s Houses, external experts and NGOs, the Kering Standards define best practices for traceability, social compliance, environmental protection, animal welfare and chemical use.
“We are redesigning our business to continue to thrive and prosper sustainably into the future, while at the same time helping to transform the luxury sector and contributing to meet the significant social and environmental challenges of our generation.”

As a seasoned expert in sustainable business practices and environmental responsibility, my extensive knowledge stems from years of dedicated research and practical experience in the field. I have closely followed the initiatives and strategies of leading companies committed to sustainability, one of which is Kering—a luxury group that has demonstrated a profound commitment to integrating sustainability into its core business operations.
Kering's dedication to sustainability is not merely a buzzword; it is a fundamental belief that permeates the organization. The 2025 Sustainability Strategy is a testament to their forward-thinking approach, aligning environmental responsibility with opportunities to create value for the Group, its Houses, customers, and society at large.
In terms of innovation, Kering has been a pioneer in sustainability. The establishment of the Material Innovation Lab in 2013 showcases their commitment to pushing the boundaries of sustainable practices. This lab, providing over 3,000 sustainable fabric and textile samples to the Group's Houses, demonstrates a tangible investment in driving innovation in materials and processes.
Furthermore, Kering's collaboration with the Fashion for Good - Plug and Play Accelerator underscores their commitment to disruptive innovation. By partnering with startups, Kering is actively contributing to the evolution of sustainable practices within the fashion industry.
The implementation of Kering Standards is another highlight of their sustainability journey. These standards, developed through years of internal research in collaboration with Houses, external experts, and NGOs, set the benchmark for traceability, social compliance, environmental protection, animal welfare, and chemical use.
One innovative tool that sets Kering apart is the Environmental Profit & Loss (EP&L). This tool, designed to quantify and value the environmental impact of its activities, represents a significant stride in enabling sustainable business models. Kering has generously shared the EP&L methodology with other companies in the luxury industry, showcasing a commitment to industry-wide positive change.
In 2017, Kering partnered with LVMH to introduce a Charter on Working Relations with Fashion Models and Their Well-Being. This initiative emphasizes the well-being of models, the image they convey, and specific requirements for models who are minors. The accompanying platform, Wecareformodels, provides valuable information, best practices, and expert advice.
To conclude, Kering's sustainability journey is not just rhetoric; it is backed by tangible actions, innovative tools, and collaborations that redefine the luxury sector's approach to environmental and social responsibility. As an enthusiast in this field, I encourage individuals to delve into Kering's Sustainability Strategy, explore their targets and results, and appreciate their commitment to transforming the luxury sector while addressing significant social and environmental challenges.
