Meri Brown from Sister Wives has several side hustles outside of her career as a reality TV star. Meri is the first of Kody Brown’s four wives. The polygamist man married her in April 1990. Meri was raised in a polygamous family in Utah. She was good friends with Kody’s sister, who introduced them just two months before their wedding when Meri was 19 and Kody was 22 years old. Janelle Brown divorced Meri’s brother to become Kody’s second wife. Meri was ignored and felt neglected while Kody married two more women back-to-back.

Meri has been a part of all 18 seasons of Sister Wives with Kody. Mother of one, Meri and Kody were legally divorced in 2014 but stayed in a spiritual union because he wanted to practice polygamy. Because attempts to fix their marriage through therapy didn’t work, Meri confirmed the end of her 32 years of marriage with Kody in December 2022. As her life took this unexpected turn, Meri found herself trying to figure out and process what was happening. She’s still wanting to know what her ultimate destination is, but single Meri has been doing well for herself in 2023.

Meri Was Fired From Mental Health Industry Job

Before Meri became a reality TV star, she used to work in the mental health industry. Meri was studying psychology and worked with at-risk youth. Meri reportedly lost the job once Sister Wives debuted on September 26, 2010. Meri’s employer was apparently aware of her polygamist marriage. However, according to InTouch, Meri’s overnight fame due to the show allegedly became “too much” for her former employer. “They felt that they needed to protect the company, I think,” Meri said during an interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show. “It actually makes me really sad because I loved my job. It breaks my heart, definitely. ... But I understand where they're coming from,” she added.

Meri Brown Owns Lizzie’s Heritage Inn

Meri is the owner of Lizzie’s Heritage Inn where she offers exclusive retreats and tours. Located in Parowan, Utah, the bed and breakfast was a home originally built by her great-great-grandparents Sarah and Charles Adams in 1870. Four generations of Meri’s family lived in the house until it was sold in the 1980s. It was Meri’s long-time dream to own it which she did without taking any help from Kody. Meri was able to buy it at $80,000 thanks to the business she did with LuLaRoe clothing. It’s named after her great-grandmother Lizzie. Meri had the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 13, 2017.

Meri Still Works With Controversial LuLaRoe Company

LuLaRoe is a multi-level marketing company that has been accused of operating as an illegal pyramid scheme. Meri found herself in hot water due to promoting herself as a “LuLaRoe Retailer” to target stay-at-home moms. Meri even supported the company’s founders after they became the subjects of LuLaRich, an Amazon documentary. Former consultants and employees alleged the brand led some of its followers to bankruptcy. The owners denied the claims, and the brand is still in business with Meri remaining loyal to them.

Meri has a link to her online clothing boutique on her Instagram. As a trainer for the brand, Meri sells items such as leggings and sweatshirts. She’s been doing it since 2016. Moreover, Meri also mentions she is a New York Times best-selling author. Meri wrote Becoming Sister Wives: The Story of an Unconventional Marriage with Kody and her then-sister wives Janelle, Christine, and Robyn. Meri also has a Cameo page as a source of income. The Sister Wives star charges $150 for a video message.

Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
