Updated on February 10, 2022, by Suzail Ahmad: Things have been getting heated up in the Wano Country arc. Law and Kid are desperately trying to bring down Big Mom and end her reign as a Yonko, while Luffy is going toe-to-toe against Kaido. With Yamato's fight against Kaido wrapping up, the latter might not be a part of the major fights anymore, but he is currently engaged in a far more important job. He has to find a way to stop the fire from reaching the weapons storage. In his pursuit to stop the fire, Yamato will undoubtedly rely on his devil fruit. So, we have decided to add more entries to provide more information about Yamato's devil fruit.

8 Devil Fruit Appearance

Yamato's Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami has a unique appearance. The devil fruit looks orange, and it has swirls that originate from the top of the devil. These swirls only go halfway down the devil fruit and the leaves are located around the stem.

The devil fruit's appearance is similar to that of a persimmon, a fruit most commonly grown in China. The Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami has a unique and quite stylish look.

7 It's A Mythical Zoan Type Devil Fruit

The devil fruit is not a regular Zoan-type devil fruit; in fact, it is a mythical Zoan-type devil fruit. So far, just seven of these types of devil fruits have been introduced in the series. Mythical Zoan types provide more strength and stamina than a regular Zoan-type devil fruit.

In addition to increasing the strength of its user, Mythical Zoans grant their users unique abilities. In Yamato's case, the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami grants him the ability to create ice. Also, in his full beast form, Yamato is able to transform into a wolf that can run at incredible speed.

6 Special Ice Ability

By now, it has been cleared up that Yamato's special devil fruit ability allows him to create ice. Yamato can use this special ability in numerous ways, with the most common one being freezing targets to temporarily immobilize them. Yamato can also use the ice to cover his weapon, thus increasing its damage. Yamato utilized his devil fruit to cover his kanabo with ice, which he then used to attack Kaido. The power of the attack was so great that it knocked Kaido to the ground.

Another way that Yamato applies this ability is by cladding his body with ice, which helps him to absorb the impact of attacks. The ice covering is so good that it cannot be distinguished from the actual body. So, the ability to produce ice can help Yamato both offensively and defensively. However, there is a limit on his devil fruit as when Yamato tried to attack Kazenbo, his attacks had no effect.

5 Significant To The Land Of Wano

Yamato's devil fruit is quite important to the story. According to Kaido, the wolf is the guardian deity of the Land of Wano, and because of this reason, Yamato is very influential to the story. Kaido's own son eating the devil fruit and then forming an alliance with the individuals who want to take him down is a very big statement.

Yamato has already acted as the guardian of the Wano on several occasions. After Luffy's tough fight against Kaido, the former fell from the rooftop. Yamato then took center stage and fought against his father. Yamato was able to hold his own against the "Strongest Creature In the World," which is an incredible feat.

4 Yamato Ate It Accidentally

When Kaido got his hands on the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami, he wanted to preserve it because he had a hard time acquiring it. Letting Yamato consume the devil fruit was the last thing that Kaido wanted. Despite the devil fruit's incredible power, Yamato never intended to eat it. A young, naive Yamato found the devil fruit and mistook it for a regular fruit. As a side-effect of eating the devil fruit, Yamato lost his ability to swim, which brought his dream of leaving the island of Onigashima to a screeching halt.

According to many theorists, Yamato might end up joining the Straw Hat Pirates as the eleventh member, which would allow him to fulfill his dream of sailing the seas. Since Yamato is heavily inspired by Oden, and the latter traveled the entire world, it would make sense for Yamato to join the crew. Whether his dream ends up coming true remains to be seen; however, it won't be long before the question is answered.

3 It's Based On An Extinct Japanese Wolf

When Yamato takes on his beast form, it is that of the now-extinct Japanese wolf called the Makami. In many of Japan's provinces, this wolf was worshipped by the people. There is a lot of lore surrounding the Makami, with many considering it a guardian deity and believing was capable of understanding the human language. It was widely accepted that the Makami safeguarded humans from misfortune, fire, and even their crops.

This is similar to Yamato's role in the Wano Country arc, as he is actively protecting the Flower Capital from being destroyed. Currently, Yamato is trying to stop the fire from spreading to the weapons storage. His failure to uphold this duty could lead to an astounding number of casualties in the Flower Capital.

2 It's The Second Wolf Model Introduced In The Series

Yamato's Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami is actually one of the two devil fruits that are based on wolf species. The first wolf model belonged to CP9's Jabra, and was introduced during the Enies Lobby arc.

With the power of his devil fruit, Jabra was able to transform into a wolf and a wolf hybrid at will, though his devil fruit does not possess any other special abilities. Jabra was able to combine his Rokushiki with his devil fruit powers, which made him a very strong opponent. However, Yamato's devil fruit is much more powerful and increases his physical attributes, whilst also granting special abilities.

1 Resemblance To East Asian Deities

Yamato's hybrid form has an uncanny resemblance to certain divine figures in East Asian religions. Most notably, when in his hybrid form, Yamato's shoulders are covered by a trail of flames.

These flames form a circular shape behind Yamato's head, which is akin to the floating tapestry found on many Buddhist deities. This further solidifies Makami's status as a deity and Yamato's role as a protector.
