Long Champ_Made in China?

I purchased two Longchamp le pliage bags at Galleries Layfette, one as a gift and one for myself. After further reading on this forum, I discovered that some of the bags are made in China while others are made in France. Following this, I checked out my recent purchases and one of the two bags was indeed made in China. I find this quite frustrating, particularly considering the prices.
Are only certain sizes and/or colors made in France? Any chance I can return/exchange the made in China bag for a made in France version? I realize that these bags are very common and not "unique." However, it would be nice to know that at least my Paris purchase was made in France.
Thanks.

Oh wow - thanks for posting this! I'll be sure to check before I make my purchase. I can't imagine they wouldn't allow you to exchange it. Are you still in Paris?

I'm leaving for Nice tomorrow. Fortunately, there is a Galleries Lafeyette in Nice. I plan to either exchange it there or return it then purchase at Longchamp store in Nice.
Who would've thought, seriously?

Sadly, it is not uncommon for designer goods to be being made in China. In Italy, they can say something (a purse, shoes, jacket, whatever) is "made in Italy" even if the majority of the item was made elsewhere (China, etc) - as long as there is a certain percentage of the item made in Italy - even just a buckle - it can say it is made in Italy.
It is an unfortunate part of the current market - I can barely find anything not made in China. It takes effort - but, I do try.

Well, that is just not right to go all the way to France and get a bag made in China! I hope you can return it or exchange it. I'm glad you posted this.

I bought 2 Longchamp bags in Paris last year. One is a Planetes and it says made in Romania.
The other is a Pliage and it was made in China.
I never thought to check, but I didn't really expect them to be made in France.

These days goods can be made anywhere and I don't think many people are surprised by it. If a business in China can deliver the goods for the right price, they get the order. The prices bear no resemblance to the cost of production whether they're made in France, China or anywhere else. That will always be the case for as long as people are prepared to pay for a name.

yes, some Furla and even Prada are being made in China now. It's best to read the lables (Made in....) prior to buying. I found this out as well last month when I purchased a Furla.

I don't know what Galleries Lafayette policies are on exchanges but in Europe it is quite common for exchanges to not be allowed. In the US we are used to exchanges being the norm, but it is not the norm everywhere.

Isn't everything made in China? Even Spode, the epitome of fine UK porcelain, is now made in China. I know people who scour second hand markets in the UK in search of the "genuine" article. Keep in mind, the manufactured item is made to a specification and a design set by the label, regardless of the place of manufacture. So if you buy Prada because you want Prada, that is what you get, regardless of the country of manufacture.
I mean, is Boeing all made in the US? Is any car still wholly manufactured in the country of origin? Where do the components of perfume come from? Move on people - this is a world economy. You want locally made, buy bread! Actually....

I bought a scarf that says "Made in France" at a nearby TJ Maxx. I loved wearing it in France. I wonder how many scarves in Paris are actually made in France?
