Kanye West and his wife/PR genius overlord Kim Kardashian recently posed for the cover of Harper's Bazaar in a very intimate way. Inside the magazine, the couple sat down for a Q&A in which they talked about, well, a lot of the things they're known for talking about. The fashion industry, being parents, and even their own vanity all coming up in the interview. (Kanye West loves Kim's selfies, but then admitted somewhat creepily that he'd love the power of invisibility just to creep around women's locker rooms.) But for fans of Kanye's Yeezy sneakers, some important info was divulged rather casually by Mr. West regarding just how limited his seemingly impossible-to-get sneakers are.

"What designer on the planet can sell, consistently, 40,000 shoes. In two minutes?" says West. Kim then follows up to say that the actual time is one minute. So, if West is to be believed (and he would know better than most), then each pair of Yeezys has been produced in a run of 40,000 pairs. Extrapolate that over seven styles and that means 280,000 Yeezys exist in the world. Now, that's more than we thought, but it also does not make Yeezys the most limited sneaker of all-time by a long shot (West's Nike Air Yeezys are thought to only exist in 5000 pair runs). Even rare Air Jordans sell upwards of 300,000 pairs a weekend.

So, to answer West's question, seemingly no one can design and then sell sneakers the way he can. (Michael Jordan is not a designer even if the sneakers are named after him.) But no one has ever doubted Kanye West's influence when it comes to moving shoes. The challenge has been getting his entire vision, from shirts to coats and beyond, onto the backs of customers. Yeezy Season 1 depiste its pricepoint sold relatively well, but since then the only clothes to hit shelves with Kanye West's name attached have been The Life of Pablo tees and hoodies. Point it when Kanye West says he's the most influential person on the planet, he isn't delusional. But he still needs help turning that influence into real products.
