What is the secret chat on Kakao? ›

Secret Chat is a feature that enhances the protection of user information by applying end-to-end encryption (End to End Encryption) technology.

Here are a few examples of such torture: Being in the middle of a chat back and forth with someone when the messages just stop coming in. You then notice the little yellow “1” which indicates that the other has not “read” your message.

This number indicates the number of friends who have not yet read a message. The number will disappear when all of your friends have checked the message.

The reason Koreans use kakaoTalk a lot is because it became popular around the time Samsung released the Galaxy S1. People with names on KakaoTalk were categorized as people who use smartphones. So anyone who bought the smartphone tried to install the KakaoTalk. So we didn't need to use another app, like a Line.

Secret Chats are device-specific, not cloud-based. If you log out or delete the app, your Secret Chats will disappear. You can only access Secret Chats from the device where you started them. Group chats cannot be made secret.

It's worth noting that if you send someone a message through Secret Conversations, they will know it's a secret chat because the message bubble, which is usually blue, will be black. Next to their image it will read 'Encrypted from one device to the other' to let both parties know they're engaged in a "Secret" chat.

Alternatively, you can remove a contact by either long-pressing (on Android) or swiping left (on iOS) on their profile in your friend list, then tapping the [Remove] button. If you select [Hide], the other party will disappear from your Friends list.

You will also notice the red dots on your friends' profile which means they have updated their profile. If you happen to see a red dot, but don't see any sign of an update, your friend may have added a new activity or posted something new on Home.
