WHERE DOES DRINKING WATER COME FROM?
In Venice water is piped in from the mainland. The water comes from an area famous for bottled water located 30 km from Venice. Actually the main part of it comes from deep wells 300 meters deep, absolutely protected from human activities.
EU DRINKING WATER STANDARDS
Italy, as a member of the EU, must adhere to strict Drinking Water standards.The public health authority, the environmental protection agency and the public local water service perform thousands of analyses and describes it as safe and fit to drink.
Venice water is considered among the best in Italy. It may taste a bit like chlorine as it is added to keep water free from being contaminated.
AVOID BUYING PLASTIC BOTTLES
The City Council urges tourists to drink water from taps and from water fountains (there are about 100 water fountains still working in our city).
Buying water bottles is a waste of money and a hazard for the environment. It is estimated that more than 20 million people visit our city every year and the millions of plastic bottles the visitors leave behind add greatly to the city’s already considerable waste disposal problems.
