I got offered Blinn TEAM at A&M but what does that mean? (2024)

By Jolyn Brand

Texas A&M is releasing final admissions decisions soon for students who applied for Fall 2018. If you got accepted, congratulations! There are also several other pathways that might be offered:

I got offered Blinn TEAM at A&M but what does that mean? (1)

  1. Aggie Gateway to Success is a summer provisional admission program that gives students a unique chance to gain full admission to the university the following fall semester.

This is a rare offer in whichGateway students who successfully complete the AGS program experience a smooth transition from high school to Aggieland. The students get acquainted to the culture here at Texas A&M University while developing academically as college students by earning credit hours. Most Gateway students find that they are already well-adjusted when the rest of the freshmen class joins them for the Fall semester.

2. Texas A&M University Blinn Team Program is a collaborative admission program between Texas A&M University and Blinn Community College. Students are co-enrolled at both institutions.

Students are expected to complete 45 credit hours at Blinn and 15 credit hours at Texas A&M during the two-year program. They must also achieve a cumulative GPA at each school of 3.0. TEAM rewards students who achieve these standards with automatic admission to A&M, but students are not guaranteed entry to a particular college or major. Be very careful with this because it is clear on the A&M website, but the offer letter sent to students (below) doesn’t state this clearly and many families have been misled by the statement of “full admission” to A&M in the letter. The 88% stat is also misleading since it only includes the graduation rate of the students after entry into A&M from Blinn; it doesn’t include the students who are not granted admission to A&M.

TAMU-Blinn TEAM students must coordinate their class schedules between the two schools to avoid time conflicts and students who use the bus system should allow for an hour of travel time between campuses. Blinn TEAM students sometimes also can’t take courses in their majors, since they are not full A&M admit students.

Blinn TEAM students also must pay required tuition and fees at both colleges. More about requirements here.

3.Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Bryan provides talented students an opportunity to pursue their engineering degree in a co-enrollment program between Texas A&M University and Blinn College-Bryan Campus.

This option is also referred to a TEAM-E (for Engineering). The pilot group, in 2013, took engineering courses from the Look College and their math and science courses at Blinn-Bryan community college. After three semesters, over 80% of the students that submitted a transfer application are already fully enrolled in an engineering major. Unfortunately, this means 20% of the students had spent 3 or more semesters at a community college, but paying university fees and rates, and NOT able to get into A&M completely.

More about entry into A&M from Engineering Academy here.

4.Program for System Admission (PSA) offers students who are denied freshman admission the opportunity to enroll in a Texas A&M system school for one year with the intention of achieving guaranteed transfer admission to Texas A&M College Station upon successful completion of the program.

Student with Texas A&M acceptance

Students complete a full Fall and Spring semester with at least 24 hours at a different A&M campus (Tarleton, A&M Corpus Christi, West Texas A&M, etc) and must maintain a 3.0 GPA, then re-apply to A&M for the 2nd year. Students applying to Engineering are not eligible and students with lots of dual credit or AP transfer credit may find it difficult to complete the requirements. Most PSA plans require Calculus and change of majors are not allowed.

5.Engineering at Galveston is a program that provides students an opportunity to begin their engineering studies on the Texas A&M Galveston campus and to complete their engineering degree in College Station as part of the Dwight Look College of Engineering.

The Engineering at Galveston program allows students the opportunity to learn about the different engineering majors, prior to seeking entry into a degree-granting major at Texas A&M College Station or Ocean Engineering at Texas A&M Galveston. Students can seek entry into an engineering major during the second semester of freshman year.

Admissions numbers are offered from the A&M website (picture below). Their overall acceptance rate is 60% (21,676 out of 35, 667 apps), but those are including the PSA and TEAM program students. Students who are admitted under the Top 10% rule make up about half of the accepted students (10,830/21, 676). The acceptance rate directly into A&M is 40% (10,830+3446 out of 35,667).
