How to Travel in Style and Comfort & Best Travel Outfits - The Stripe (2)

I did a little Q&A on Instagram stories last week and got so many travel-related questions. You asked me whether I was planning any solo travel, what destinations are next on my list, and my must-see places for the coming New Year. I have a few trips in the works but nothing until March. It’s been really nice staying put for a bit but I am looking forward to getting away (and craving the sunshine!) My next big trip (I think!!) will be a yoga retreat in Costa Rica this coming March. I can’t wait!

Today we are talking about travel style! I am sharing two of my go-to travel looks as well as tips + tricks for flying in style. There’s such a fine line to walk when it comes to travel… I don’t want to look sloppy, but I also don’t want to be uncomfortable… airplanes are already bad enough on their own without an uncomfortable outfit. Everything I’m wearing can be found at Nordstrom – their vacations page has so many good ideas for both vacation-ready looks and casual travel clothes. These are in my opinion the best clothes to fly in but of course I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the matter (tell me your favorite looks to wear on the plane in the comments!?)Nordstrom is one of my favorite places to shop for so many reasons. I love their easy (+free!) shipping and returns, their amazing customer service (anytime I’ve ever had a problem they fix it right away), and that they even do free alterations!

Separately, the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale is now in full swing – you can save up to 50% off!

How to Travel in Style and Comfort

First of all, I try to only pack + wear pieces I can wear multiple ways when I travel, so I really love a kimono for the plane. It makes you look dressed up and chic, but once you are on the plane feels a bitlike pajamas. They’re so versatile, too! I style kimonos here a lot and love wearing them like a jacket but once you get to your destination they’re just as great at the beach as a coverup, or for lounging around in the hotel. A girlfriend of mine wears them like a dress – I can’t quite pull it off but if you belt it and add heels, it’s definitely doable. Definitely a wardrobe MVP. This pink one is so pretty and I love that it’s 100% silk.

How to Fly In Style

Up your accessories game.

Channel Victoria Beckham with a big floppy hat (or at least big sunglasses – I’m a fan of these!)

Dress in comfortable layers.

There’s nothing worse than being too hot or too cold. I like to have a few layers with me (which is why the kimono in this look and the cape in the second look are so great) and a big comfy scarf, too!

Keep socks nearby (or wear boots/sneakers so that you don’t have that problem)

I learned my lesson with this during my summer travels, since I don’t usually wear socks. Now I always keep a pair at the top of my carry on so that I can put them on at security + on the plane (my feet get so so cold!) I personally really love compression socks for longer flights but cashmere socks are such a luxury… they’ll add a luxe touch to your travel even if you’re stuck in the last row, middle seat (this happened to me a few times this summer).

Choose low maintenance footwear.

A simple pump, a boot that easily comes on and off, classic ballet flats or loafers. You don’t want your footwear choice to be the reason you hold up the security line!

Pack a kit with your in-flight must-haves.

I always, always have a little bag with my travel must-haves in TSA approved sizes: lip balm, hand sanitizer, a face mist, and moisturizer(s). If it’s a longer flight I’ll bring a sheet mask and/or some of these gold eye masks (my FAVORITE!)

Have a pre-take off prep routine.

I’ll wipe down my seat + tray, apply hand sanitizer and then begin my hydration routine. Hand cream, a splash of face mist, moisturizer, and more moisturizer (maybe face oil – LOVE this one). Airplane air is so drying, it’s important to keep your skin as hydrated as possible.

The fringe trim cape I am wearing is such a great travel piece. It adds lightweight warmth on the plane, but when you get to your destination is just as cute at the beach with cutoffs and a swimsuit, or even over your dress at night.

Best Travel Outfits For Style & Comfort

For even more inspiration – here are a few of my favorite travel friendly outfit combinations. Don’t forget a big cozy scarf to layer over any of these outfits. I like my scarves to be big enough to double as a blanket. This one is divine and this one is pretty great too (and a good price!)
