How long does tobacco stay fresh for? ›

Tobacco like any natural product has a shelf life, whilst this shelf life can last quite a long time the tobacco starts to dry out the moment you break the seal. In an unopened pack the tobacco should stay fresh for around two years - however we know you've bought it to smoke so that's not really a consideration.

Conversely, too much moisture will cause mold, which causes the tobacco to be unsmokable. -Do not put pipe tobacco in the refrigerator or a cigar humidor. In a refrigerator, the tobacco, no matter how well-sealed it is, will absorb the flavors of the food within, which will change the taste of the tobacco.

Some people prefer to get loose packs of tobacco and store them in a plastic bag in the freezer and then roll their cigarettes. Don't store cigars in the refrigerator because they can't handle the moisture and temperature changes. They need to be stored at room temperature.

You can use a piece of fruit peel in order to make your tobacco fresh and moist. Just get a small, square-shaped piece of a fruit peel and add to your tobacco. This will assist you in keeping tobacco moist inside a tin or a tobacco pouch for a long time.

Add a slice of potato peel (always use the outer peel rather than a slice of the inner potato). This will keep the tobacco fresh for about 7 days, and will also re-moisten dried out tobacco.

Just use a clean jar at room temperature and screw the lid on tight. Don't worry about it. For tobacco to age it must have some air. I just fill my jars to the top and press most of the air out of them with my knuckes as the jar becomes full.
