Going Dark? Don't Forget to Tweak Your Makeup (2024)

Have you seen Jennifer Lawrence lately? Gone is her sweet, natural honey blonde, replaced with a rich, dark chestnut shade. I like it! It's sophisticated. And even though it's a big change, it's not startling. That's because her makeup is exactly right—a superimportant thing to bear in mind when you make a big color switch. I talked to makeup artist Ricky Wilson to get some tips on making sure your makeup and new hair color are totally simpatico.

__

Tone down your eye makeup: __"When your hair is lighter, you can do more crazy things with eye shadow and liner. But the minute you go darker, you need keep it more neutral around the eyes. Otherwise, you can look really overdone."

__

Don't fear a bright lip:__ "When you have darker hair, you can do brights or a really vampy lip, which is hot right now. And those colors won't have as much of an impact on a blonde."

__

Warm up your complexion:__ "If your skin tone is fair to medium, you can look really washed out with darker hair because the contrast between your skin and your hair color is so much greater. The best way to combat that is to use bronzer to bring out some warmth."

__

Don't overdo your eyebrows:__ "Having darker hair doesn't necessarily mean you need darker brows. Use a light hand when filling them in, and use a soft shade of brown, like Dior's DiorShow Brow Styler. "
