Beauty standards have existed for as long as humans have lived in societies. These ever-changing ideals for beauty have given rise to some of the most influential and recognizable figures in history – such as the Egyptian queen Cleopatra, and Lisa del Giocondo, also known as the subject of da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
However, these beauty standards can also have a negative impact on the way that we view ourselves – particularly in the case of women, who often face much more rigid and often unrealistic standards.
Around the world, each country has its own definition of beauty. While there may be some similarities between neighboring countries, the overall differences are quite striking. As humans, we are generally aware of these beauty standards and often feel the weight of them if we feel that we’re unable to meet the expectations set for our appearance – but what about A.I.?
Artificial Intelligence has been on the rise for the past few years, with new software being made available constantly. Many of the latest A.I. tools consist of image generators, which begs the question – do they, also, perpetuate these global beauty standards? To find out, we at Great Green Wall used A.I. to generate the ‘ideal’ beauty standard for each country.

Methodology:
We used the A.I. image generator, Midjourney, to create a beauty pageant representative for each country in the style of the ‘Miss World’ pageant. We used what the A.I. believes to be the beauty standard, based on what it thinks the general public perceives to be the ‘ideal’ for that country.
For each country, the same prompt was given, with only the country name being changed.
The prompt given to the A.I. was: ‘Create a realistic photo of what the [country name] public consider the ideal woman's body to be Miss [country name], please show a full length photo of the woman in a dress. No text in the image.’
Europe
France
The ‘Miss France’ candidates generated by the A.I. all have very similar features, despite two hair colors – blonde and brunette – appearing. Each of the A.I.-generated women has a slim and toned figure, with a particularly small waist. The facial features are similar – an elongated forehead, thin nose, high cheekbones, a sharp jawline and plump lips. In the lower images, we can almost see an Audrey Hepburn-esque appearance.
Germany
Despite being neighbors, ‘Miss Germany’ looks quite different. Again, we see very slim figures on all of the A.I. generated women, however, there is less toning in comparison to the French. Interestingly, many of the German women feature quite sharp and chiseled features that almost seem more masculine. Again, an elongated forehead is present in all of the images, with small, thin lips and pale eyebrows.
Although the body expectations are quite strict – with an almost-impossible level of slimness being seen as desirable – the facial features that are viewed as the beauty standard in Germany are quite natural, and could apply to a lot of the population.
Russia
For the beauty standards in Russia, the A.I. generated models were all displayed with a slim, hourglass build. The hair color was fairly similar, with all women having either brunette or blonde hair. Similar facial features included thin lips, high cheekbones, a sharp jawline, and a high forehead.
United Kingdom
In each of the images generated for the UK, it’s clear to see that the A.I. took a lot of its inspiration from the late Princess Diana. Each of the ‘Miss United Kingdom’ candidates has the same blonde hair, elongated forehead, high cheekbones and blue eyes – with a thin button nose and full lips. The UK representatives are also all slim in appearance, with slightly more muscular definition compared to the others we’ve seen so far.
With Princess Diana’s ‘English rose’ beauty remaining famous across both the UK and the wider world, it’s not too surprising to see that her image is still widely viewed as the ultimate beauty standard there.
Italy
For Italy, being brunette seems to be a significant part of the beauty standards. Almost all of the A.I.-generated women have long, wavy hair and a middle-parting that keeps their hair away from the face. The beauty standard also seems to include a glowing olive complexion, with dark eyebrows, small, thin lips, and a lengthened nose.
Once again, the women all have small waists but do not have any muscle definition. Although the body proportions are not likely to occur naturally for everyone, the facial feature standards are fairly lenient.
Spain
‘Miss Spain’ has a Barbie-esque beauty, with a pointed chin and doll-like features. Both brunette and blonde hair seem to be commonly associated with the beauty standard, alongside brown eyes. Unlike other European countries seen so far, ‘Miss Spain’ has a much smaller forehead and narrower face, with a small pointed nose and full lips.
Once again, however, the beauty standard seems to gravitate towards a slimmer figure. While this beauty standard may seem visually appealing, it’s likely placing a lot of pressure on Spanish women that don’t naturally have a doll-face.
Ukraine
In terms of Ukraine’s beauty standards, the A.I. generations of most models are shown as royals, fitted with a crown. It’s clear that beauty standards are largely influenced by the Ukrainian royal family and the culture that surrounds them. There is no standard hair color, with both blonde and brunette women pictured. They do all, however, have petite builds and high foreheads, with a small face.
Poland
For ‘Miss Poland’, the A.I. generations included women wearing traditional Polish garments. Each model had light brunette or blonde hair color and a v-shaped jawline. Additionally, the women were represented with short hair tied up at the back, defined cheekbones, and a petite build. It’s clear that the skinnier women represent the expectations of Polish beauty standards.
Romania
The A.I.’s perception of the Romanian beauty standard is also quite doll-like, with each of the women having a small forehead, big brown eyes, a small pointed nose, and full lips – alongside high cheekbones and a pointed jawline. Once again, a slim figure is present on each of the ‘Miss Romania’ candidates, with a high emphasis on very slim arms and prominent décolletage.
Netherlands
‘Miss Netherlands’ is a blonde bombshell through and through. Unlike the others seen so far, the A.I.’s interpretation of this country’s beauty standards are slightly less-slim, with an emphasis on a curvy hourglass figure. Blonde hair is the standard, with each woman boasting mid-length blonde hair that has a blown-out wave to it. Facial features consist of a wider jawline, a high forehead, and sharp eyebrows – alongside a thin mouth.
Of the countries we’ve discussed so far, the Netherlands seems to have the most attainable beauty standard, in the sense that it focuses more on a natural appearance and curvier body type.
Belgium
The A.I.’s idea of beauty standards in Belgium highlights a preference for slim, blonde women. Each of the women generated is shown with luscious flowing blonde hair and a petite build. Furthermore, some models are displayed with toned bodies. A high forehead and raised cheekbones are also viewed as the beauty standards for ‘Miss Belgium’, according to the A.I.
Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic, the beauty standards generated by A.I. are represented by women with petite builds. Each model is also shown in traditional garments displaying their defined collarbones. Furthermore, hair ranged from brunette to blonde hair color while the style also ranged from tied up to long flowing locks.
Greece
The Greek beauty standard places a lot of emphasis on muscles. Just like the traditional Ancient Greek goddesses, a well-built yet slim physique can be found in all of the A.I. images for this country. Again, both blonde and brunette hair is present – with a tiny waist and well-toned legs. In terms of facial features, ‘Miss Greece’ has a very ‘Instagram influencer’-like appearance, with full lips, defined cheekbones, dark eyebrows and sharp cat-like makeup.
While this isn’t exactly the most natural of looks, those that love to work out may feel quite validated to see a muscular beauty being sought after here.
Portugal
In Portugal, the beauty standard seems to be fairly similar to Spain’s, but with less of an emphasis on a pointed face – instead, the Portuguese standard seems to prefer a more angular jawline. Each ‘Miss Portugal’ generated by the A.I. features a high forehead, with dark eyebrows, a small nose, and a full, small mouth. Again, high cheekbones seem to fit the beauty standard, alongside a small waist and strong arms.
While there is slightly less pressure to fit into the doll-face mold, Portugal’s beauty standards still are unlikely to apply to the majority of the population, resulting in many women feeling insecure about their appearance.
Sweden
Of all the countries discussed, Sweden’s beauty standards are some of the most natural. Although there is still an emphasis on a flat stomach, this is typically due to a focus on fitness and building muscle. In terms of hair color, blonde is the standard – which is unsurprising, since 78% of the Swedish population has blonde hair. In terms of facial features, ‘Miss Sweden’ has some of the most common facial features for the country, including a small nose, high forehead, angled jawline, and blue eyes.
Overall, while there is still an emphasis on a slim waist and a toned body, there is far less pressure for women to have a model-like physique. This is particularly true in the case of women’s legs, which are depicted in a range of sizes within the A.I. generated images.
Hungary
Another country with a big emphasis on fitness and a muscular physique is Hungary. Each of the ‘Miss Hungary’ candidates generated by the A.I. features an extremely muscular and defined abdomen, with toned legs and arms. Once again, both blonde and brunette hair is included within the beauty standard, while the facial features interestingly don’t conform to one set standard. While all of the women have a fairly small face shape, there is a lot of variation in terms of nose size, mouth shape, and even eye color.
Belarus
Another interesting set of beauty standards comes from the A.I. generated candidates for ‘Miss Belarus’. While all of the women have blonde hair, their body and facial features vary quite significantly. In some of the images, the women have a slightly larger appearance, with no stomach definition. In contrast, some of the other women have flat, well-defined stomachs. In terms of facial features, a small face seems consistent across all of the A.I.-generated images, however, there were no other similar traits.
Austria
In Austria, the beauty standards can vary with the A.I. generations showing different builds and characteristics. Some of these women are shown with a slightly curvier body type and undefined stomach while others are displayed with much slimmer builds and more muscular stomachs. Facial features tended to have a v-shaped jawline while hair color ranged from blonde to brunette or somewhere in between.
Serbia
Serbia’s beauty standards consist largely of a toned or muscular body, with a slim waist and a flat stomach. Once again, brunette and blonde hair are both included, while the facial features typically consist of a small face, a v-shaped jawline, and high cheekbones.
Although the beauty standards for ‘Miss Serbia’ seemed slightly more relaxed in terms of the facial features, there is a heavy emphasis on having a petite and muscular body type.
Switzerland
In Switzerland, the A.I. did not really determine any set beauty standards in terms of facial features. However, there were similarities in terms of the body type. All of the ‘Miss Switzerland’ A.I. candidates had slim figures, with a small waist and thin arms. However, they were not excessively slim like some other European countries. Again, brunette and blonde hair were present in the A.I. images, but facial features ranged from small and long faces, to both thin and full lips.
Bulgaria
For ‘Miss Bulgaria’, the A.I. generated images displayed women with muscular builds and extremely defined stomachs. It’s evident that beauty standards in the country include a woman with a well-toned physical condition, with each model having clearly-defined abs. A brunette hair color is also a favorable option in Bulgaria.
Denmark
For Denmark, the beauty standards again heavily emphasized a slim and toned figure, with both brunette and blonde hair. The women generated by the A.I. have broad shoulders and very slim waists. In some cases, the women also had slim, toned arms. In terms of facial features, each had an angled jawline, high forehead and high cheekbones – with a slim nose and wide mouth.
Finland
In contrast to many of the countries discussed previously, Finland’s beauty standards are focused on women with a larger body type. Many of the ‘Miss Finland’s generated by the A.I. are very curvy women, often with red hair. In terms of facial features, a high forehead, wide nose, and angled jawline were present in all of the women generated.
When it comes to Finland’s beauty standards, it’s likely that women are more likely to feel comfortable with their natural appearance here, in comparison to other European countries.
Slovakia
For Slovakia, the body types that were most present included curvy women with a smaller waist, often with muscle definition. Once again, both blonde and brunette hair was included by the A.I., with quite a lot of variation in terms of facial features.
Despite a slight gravitation towards muscles and fitness, Slovakia seems to be another country with quite lax beauty standards.
Norway
Norway’s beauty standards include mid-length blonde hair, an angled jawline, blue eyes, and a slim physique. Overall, each of the ‘Misses’ generated by the A.I. featured a small waist, a generally thin body type, and a well-defined face, complete with a high forehead and small mouth. Blonde hair was the standard for this country, which is no surprise with 75% of the population having this hair color.
Ireland
Another country with fairly normal beauty standards is Ireland, with each of the ‘Miss Ireland’ candidates having an average figure and varied facial features. Many of the women had curvier figures, with wider hips and a slightly smaller waist. There was no emphasis on having slim arms or legs, or on building muscle tone. Instead, all of the women appeared natural and comfortable. Hair colors varied from red to brunette and even blonde. Facial features varied from longer faces with more celtic features to small, almost-round faces with a heart-shaped mouth. In Ireland, it seems that anyone can be considered beautiful.
Croatia
It was interesting to see the similarities between the women generated for ‘Miss Croatia’. It’s apparent that blonde hair is a popular option when it comes to idealized beauty standards. Each model also boasted a petite build, raised forehead, and defined collarbones. Overall, it seems Croatian beauty standards are very particular.
Moldova
Moldova’s ‘Miss’ candidates were shown in a range of builds and hairstyles, while most were shown with a petite build, there was also room for curvier models in the country’s beauty standards. Facial features include a small nose, full lips, high cheekbones, a high forehead, and a chiseled jawline.
Bosnia
Another country with an emphasis on curvier women is Bosnia. Each of the ‘Miss’ candidates generated by the A.I. feature a curvier body type, with broad shoulders, wide hips, and untoned arms and legs. While there is still a smaller waist on some of the images, the beauty standard is generally the bigger, the better. In terms of facial features, a small forehead, dark eyebrows, a small nose and a wide mouth are seen on each of the women generated by the A.I.
Albania
Albania’s ‘Miss’ candidates each feature beautiful wavy blonde hair, with a small waist and slim physique. The facial features are some of the most similar amongst any of the countries, solidifying the beauty standards. A small forehead with a sharp jawline and high cheekbones, alongside a small button nose, blue eyes, and a full mouth. For Albanian women, it seems there is a very stringent expectation for their appearance, one that is likely to leave many women unfortunately feeling less-than.
Lithuania
Lithuania’s beauty standards have a little bit of something for everyone. While there are some slimmer women (see the top right), there are also curvier women and some in the middle. In terms of hair color, blonde is the standard, although one of the women does also have beautiful red hair. Facial features-wise, a smaller face with a chiseled, almost-masculine jawline and a wide nose are present on each of the women, alongside a wide mouth with thinner lips. Each of the women also has quite a high forehead.
North Macedonia
‘Miss North Macedonia’ is another supermodel-esque creation, with each of the women having a slim and toned physical appearance. In terms of hair color, we see blonde, brunette and red hair present. Facial features include a v-shaped jawline, dark eyebrows, a thin nose, and full heart-shaped lips. While these women are certainly beautiful, this beauty standard is unlikely to be attainable for most women.
Slovenia
In terms of ‘Miss Slovenia’, we see a popularity towards slim and curvy body types. Each woman has a different hairstyle or hair color but, in terms of facial features, a round face with full lips and high cheekbones seems to be the beauty standard, alongside a high forehead and thin eyebrows.
Latvia
‘Miss Latvia’ is another varied creation, with the A.I. generating both slim and curvy women. Each woman has a fairly small face, with an angular jawline and sharp features. However, while some women have slim figures and small waists, others have broad shoulders, wide hips, and a generally curvier look. Although there are some similarities in terms of facial features, it doesn’t seem as though there is a strict beauty standard within Latvia, with many different appearances being considered beautiful.
Estonia
Estonia is another country with a significant amount of body positivity within its beauty standards. Within the A.I.-generated images are a range of body shapes, from the toned, slimmed physique we’ve seen many times now in other countries, to a curvier shape. Hair colors vary from blonde to brunette, and skin tones range from pale to a healthy tan. In terms of facial features, there isn’t too much similarity between the women generated by the A.I., which suggests there may not be much of a set beauty standard in Estonia.
Montenegro
‘Miss Montenegro’ has a timeless sort of beauty that you might’ve expected to see on magazine covers in the early 90s. With hair colors ranging from brunette to blonde, ‘Miss Montenegro’ most commonly seems to have a slight tan and a slim physique. In particular, the images generated by the A.I. all have a small waist and thin arms. Facial features consist of high foreheads, rounded jawlines, long, thin noses, and small mouths.
Luxembourg
Luxembourg’s beauty standards are quite well-defined, with each of the A.I. images bearing similarities. While there is not so much emphasis on the body type, there are very clear desirable facial features. These include a sharp jawline, small forehead, high cheekbones, wide mouth, thin lips, and broad nose.
Malta
In terms of Malta’s beauty standards, brunette is definitely preferred, as each model was shown with this hair color. Despite this, there were a few different body types generated by the A.I. including both curvier and slimmer, petite builds. Each model did, however, have a high forehead and defined jaw shape.
Iceland
Iceland’s beauty standards ranged quite significantly from woman to woman, according to the A.I. While some models were represented with a curvier body type, others had a slim and petite shape. Hair color ranged from blonde to brunette and even ginger. Each woman was also shown to have a high forehead.
Andorra
In Andorra, the beauty standard has much more of an emphasis on being strong, with broad shoulders, wide hips and thighs, and muscular stomachs. What is interesting about the beauty standards here is that there is no set hair color or even hair texture that is preferred, with brunettes, blondes, and those with black hair all being generated by the A.I.
Monaco
The beauty standards within Monaco are very supermodel-esque, with slim, toned waistlines, small chests, and very low body fat. In terms of facial features, there are not very many similarities, other than a small forehead and high cheekbones. Some of the women have more of a chiseled jawline, while others have rounder faces, suggesting that the face isn’t as important within the beauty standards as the body – which has a very clearly-defined expectation.
Liechtenstein
‘Miss Liechtenstein’ is another body-positive example, with many of the A.I.-generated images featuring much more curvy body types, with less emphasis on being muscular or toned. Although some of the examples do still have a smaller waist and defined abs, others have a much more curvaceous appearance. In terms of hair color, blonde, red, and brunette are all found in the A.I. examples. Interestingly, there are practically no similarities between the facial features amongst the examples generated by the A.I., again suggesting that there may not be concrete beauty standards in Liechtenstein.
San Marino
San Marino’s beauty standards have a very typical European appearance, with an olive skin tone and small, delicate features. In terms of body type, there is some variation between slimmer physiques and a curvier body shape. The most common hair colors include blonde and brunette, and the majority of the A.I.-generated images have blue or green eyes. Face-wise, the women have small, delicate faces with small noses and mouths, full lips, high cheekbones, and a soft jawline.
Georgia
The A.I. interpretation of Georgia’s beauty standards includes a very traditional, old-Hollywood-esque look to them. Each of the women has fair skin, dark brunette hair, and a slim-but-curvy build. In terms of facial features, the women have a structured jawline, defined cheekbones, and a medium forehead. Additionally, each has a long, thin nose and thin lips.
Cyprus
The A.I. representatives for the ideal ‘Miss Cyprus’ include women with a toned and muscular physique, a narrow waist, curvy hips, and broad shoulders. Both blonde and black hair colors were generated by the A.I., alongside an olive skin tone. Facial features include a chiseled jawline, narrow nose, high forehead, and high cheekbones.
Asia
India
‘Miss India’ has a typical Bollywood glamor, with a slim body shape and long brunette hair. In terms of the facial features, a small face with a v-shape jawline and long, slim nose is present in each example. The body shape is typically very slim, with slightly curvy hips and a small waist.
China
‘Miss China’ has very delicate features and a petite body type. Out of all of the countries covered so far, this country might have the most defined beauty standards – with almost all of the A.I. images sharing the same features. In terms of facial features, a small forehead, pointed v-shape jawline, high cheekbones, small nose and sharp eyebrows are common across each of the examples – alongside a small, heart-shaped mouth.
Indonesia
In Indonesia, there is another well-defined beauty standard. Each of the ‘Misses’ generated for this country have a very slim, model-like physique, with a tiny waist and long, thin limbs. Facial features include a sharp v-shaped jawline, high cheekbones, almond-shaped eyes, a long, thin nose and full lips. Each of the A.I. images also interestingly features black hair, suggesting that this hair color is an integral part of the beauty standard.
Pakistan
Pakistan’s ‘Miss’ all feature beautiful cultural clothing and headscarves. Each of the women has a slender frame, with either brunette or black hair. In terms of facial features, there is a clear beauty standard. Common features include a sharp jawline, small nose, high cheekbones, and thick, dark-colored eyebrows. The women also have small mouths with an average lip shape.
Bangladesh
‘Miss Bangladesh’ also features stunning cultural robes and a head covering. These women have varied body shapes, with some being slimmer while others have curvier figures, but all have black hair. The common facial features include a soft jawline, high forehead, high cheekbones, and a long, thin nose. The ‘Miss Bangladesh’ candidates each have a small mouth with full lips, and thick black eyebrows.
Japan
Japan’s beauty standards are focused very much on having pale skin and a petite figure. Common features include brunette or black hair, a round forehead shape, sharp black eyebrows, a v-shaped jawline, and almond-shaped eyes. Each woman also has a small, doll-like mouth with full lips. Much of Japan’s beauty standards have remained unchanged for decades, and have inspired many aspects of the country’s culture – including pop ‘idol’ culture, and the traditional ‘Geisha’.
Philippines
‘Miss Philippines’ is another beauty standard that favors a slim, petite body type. Each of the A.I.-generated images features a slim-built woman, with delicate limbs and a small waist. Each woman also has black hair. Some of the common facial features include a small, pointed face-shape, small forehead, thick eyebrows, and full lips.
Vietnam
Interestingly, ‘Miss Vietnam’ is another example that is highly focused on fitness and exercise. Many of the images feature women with small waists, slender frames, and toned, muscular stomachs. In terms of facial features, there is quite a clear preference for a rounded face-shape, small forehead, thick, full lips, almond-shaped eyes, and dark eyebrows.
Turkey
Turkey’s beauty standards generated by the A.I. displayed women with petite builds and, in some cases, defined stomachs. Each ‘Miss Turkey’ model was a brunette but the style of hair varied from person to person. Other similarities included high cheekbones, full lips, and visibly defined collarbones.
Iran
‘Miss Iran’ features more beautiful cultural garments, including ornate head coverings. Each of the women has a wider, curvier frame, with sharp facial features. Black hair is the standard across all of the A.I. examples, and the women each have defined jawlines, long noses and dark eyebrows.
Thailand
‘Miss Thailand’ has a heavy emphasis on a slender waist. Each of the A.I. examples features a very slender woman with a tiny waist and toned stomach muscles. Many of the ‘Misses’ also feature wide, curvy hips and toned limbs. In terms of facial features, a v-shaped jawline with high cheekbones and almond-shaped eyes are found on all of the examples, alongside small mouths with full lips.
Myanmar
Myanmar’s beauty standards consist of a range of different body types, including slender women with small waists, and curvier women with less definition. In terms of common features, many of the women have small, pointed faces with full lips, dark eyebrows, and long noses. The common hair color across each of the A.I. examples is black, which is unsurprising – as Myanmar is one of the biggest virgin black human hair exporters in the world.
South Korea
‘Miss South Korea’ features a beautiful ornate variant of the Hanbok – a traditional Korean dress. The common hair colors across each woman are either black or brunette, with facial features including a v-shaped jawline, high cheekbones, a small, rounded forehead, almond-shaped eyes, and a small nose.
Iraq
In Iraq, the beauty standard includes women having black hair and a slender physique, with a particular emphasis on a small waist. Common facial features include a rounded face shape, small forehead, large nose and wide mouth.
Saudi Arabia
Each of the ‘Miss Saudi Arabia’ examples generated by the A.I. is wearing a beautiful traditional garb and headdress, meaning there are no hair colors on display. There are a range of body shapes, from more slender bodies to curvy body types. Common facial features include sharp facial features, dark eyebrows, and elongated noses.
Uzbekistan
In Uzbekistan, the main body type found in the A.I.-generated images is a slim-but-curvy body shape, with a small waist and wide hips. Each of the women has black or brunette hair, with common facial features including a small nose, soft jawline, thin eyebrows, and a small mouth with thin lips.
Malaysia
For the ‘Miss Malaysia’ models, each woman was shown in their country’s traditional garments. The women were also all slim builds while the hair was also concealed within their headdresses. Facial similarities included full lips, high cheekbones, a small nose, and a v-shaped jawline.
Yemen
For Yemen’s beauty standards, the Yemeni women are also displayed in their country’s traditional clothing. Each woman’s hair is concealed with a head covering, but facial similarities include a long nose, small lips, and an oval facial shape. The ‘Miss Yemen’ models were also shown to have a slim build.
Nepal
‘Miss Nepal’ is one of the youngest-looking women in the study, with each of the A.I. examples showcasing a young woman with a slim frame and black hair. Common facial features include a round face, long nose, high cheekbones, small mouth with full lips, and almond-shaped eyes with thin black eyebrows. Nepal’s beauty standards actually seem to be quite normal, with no exaggerated features or supermodel-like expectations.
Taiwan
Taiwan’s beauty standards consist of pale skin, a slender frame, and dark brunette or black hair colors. Facial features include a small face, v-shaped jawline, round forehead, and soft eyebrows. Much of Taiwan’s beauty standards seem to have a doll-like quality to them, meaning these expectations are likely unattainable for many.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka’s beauty standards are quite well-defined, with each of the A.I. images sharing similar traits. The common hair color across each of the images is black, with the body type consisting of a slim build and small waist, with wide curvy hips. Facial features include a small, soft face shape with a small mouth, full lips, and a short nose. Thin eyebrows and wide eyes are also common features across the A.I. examples.
Kazakhstan

Azerbaijan’s beauty standards cover a range of different appearances and body types – from a slender supermodel-esque appearance to a curvier body shape. In terms of Brazil’s beauty standards, a refined jawline can be seen on each of the A.I generated models, each ‘Miss Brazil’ is also represented with a petite figure and defined collarbones. Malawi
In terms of Malawi’s beauty standards, there were some differences between the different models. The builds of these women ranged from curvier, slightly larger women to more slim body types. Final thoughts
Through this research, we have been able to determine that Artificial Intelligence is rapidly developing and becoming more aware of the world around it, including ideal beauty standards for women and how different countries vary in their expectations for womens’ appearance.
Beauty standards are nothing new, but they can sadly result in many women feeling that they don’t fit in within their own country, or that they are not considered beautiful. This, in turn, can cause self-esteem issues and may be attributed to the increase in procedures, such as plastic surgery, in certain countries – including South Korea, Turkey, and the United States.
Overall, the research highlighted how ingrained these beauty standards are across the world, in the sense that even relatively new A.I. technology is able to pick up on these expectations for women and represent them through image generation.
