Managing Your Subscription

I forgot my password. How can I sign in?

When you’re asked for your password, select the option on the screen that says Help me sign in. If there is a New Yorker account associated with your e-mail address, we will e-mail you a secure sign-in link that does not require a password.

How do I make changes to my e-mail address or password?

Please visit My Account to manage your account information, including your e-mail address and password.

I have an active digital subscription. How do I get unlimited access to the New Yorker app?

If you already have a New Yorker account:

  1. Open the New Yorker app and select Settings in the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. Select Sign in or create an account.
  3. Sign in with the e-mail address you used to purchase your subscription.
  4. If after signing in you see the option to Link your print subscription, please do so.

If you do not have an account, select Link your print subscription, enter your subscription details, and create an account.

You will then be able to use your New Yorker account to get unlimited access to the app.

What does it mean to link or verify my subscription? Why is this important?

Creating a New Yorker account and subscribing to The New Yorker are independent operations. It is possible to create an account without being a subscriber, and vice versa. In order to read unlimited articles as a subscriber, you’ll need to link your subscription to your account.

To link your subscription in the New Yorker app:

  1. Open the New Yorker app and select Settings in the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. Select Link your subscription.
  3. Enter your account number or subscription number, which can be found in two places: the Account summary section of Customer Care and the mailing label of a magazine, if you are a print subscriber.
  4. Or, select the link to use your shipping address.

You can also visit newyorker.com/account/link to link your subscription.

If you have trouble linking your subscription, please e-mail apps@newyorker.com or call 855-680-3077 (332-239-6553, if outside the United States).

How do I unsubscribe from The New Yorker?

If you subscribed through the New Yorker app, you’ll need to cancel through Apple. If you subscribed elsewhere or have a gift subscription, you can cancel through the New Yorker Web site by visiting My Account and selecting Manage Subscription. For further assistance, please e-mail apps@newyorker.com or call 855-680-3077 (332-239-6553, if outside the United States).

If I cancel my subscription, when does the cancellation go into effect?

The cancellation will be processed immediately. According to Apple’s policy, if you cancel a free trial, you may lose access to the New Yorker app. If you cancel a paid purchase, you will continue to have unlimited access to the app until the next billing cycle.

How do I restore an Apple purchase?

If you previously purchased a subscription through the New Yorker app, but deleted the app, you may need to restore your purchase. To do so, open the New Yorker app and select Settings in the top-right corner of the screen, then Restore your Apple purchase.

Why should I create a newyorker.com account?

All readers are encouraged to create a free New Yorker account, regardless of their subscription status. A New Yorker account enables you to start the seven-day free trial in the app (if you have not previously subscribed to The New Yorker), choose a subscription plan, or link an active print subscription.

If you subscribe to The New Yorker or use the seven-day free trial, you have unlimited access to newyorker.com, as well as the New Yorker app and the complete New Yorker archive online.

If you have not done so, please create a free account now.

I have multiple New Yorker accounts. Can I combine them?

Yes, our staff would be happy to assist you. Please e-mail apps@newyorker.com or call 855-680-3077 (332-239-6553, if outside the United States).

How do I get unlimited access to the magazine on my iPhone, iPad, or iPod?

If you already have an active New Yorker subscription, purchased directly from The New Yorker, download the New Yorker app and select Already a subscriber? Sign in from the Settings screen.

If you are a subscriber but do not have a newyorker.com account, please select Link your print subscription from the Settings screen.

If you do not have an active New Yorker subscription, please subscribe to get unlimited access to the magazine.

Am I able to access my New Yorker digital subscription on multiple devices simultaneously?

Yes. As long as you are signed in to your New Yorker account and your account is linked to an active New Yorker subscription, you can access your subscription on multiple devices. However, subscriptions purchased through the New Yorker app do not include access to third-party platforms (such as Kindle or Nook).

Do I need a subscription to access the New Yorker app?

Yes. The app is exclusive to subscribers, and is free to download. If you subscribed directly through The New Yorker (including newyorker.com and the New Yorker app), you can view as many articles and issues as you’d like. If eligible, non-subscribers will be invited to explore the app through a free trial.

If I am subscribed to the print magazine, do I also have unlimited access to the New Yorker app?

All print subscriptions include unlimited digital access. In order to make the most of your subscription, please be sure you have created a New Yorker account, linked it to your print subscription, and signed in to the New Yorker app.

Is the magazine available on mobile and tablet devices?

Yes. The New Yorker app allows you to view all of The New Yorker’s offerings on a mobile or tablet iOS device, including daily news and culture coverage on the Web, and each week’s issue, in full.

If you subscribed through The New Yorker’s site or app, you can read the complete magazine by opening the New Yorker app, then selecting Magazine at the bottom of the screen. Every issue since 2008 is available to browse and save off-line.

The New Yorker app is available through the App Store, and digital editions of the magazine are available through the Nook bookstore.

Which devices support the New Yorker app?

The New Yorker app can be downloaded to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod for free from the App Store. We support the three most recent versions of iOS on iPhone and iPad. If you’re using an Android device, refer to the next section for more information.

How do I save stories in the New Yorker app?

After tapping on a story, whether from the app’s Top Stories feed or from the Magazine tab, select the Save icon in the top-right corner. You can then revisit saved stories through the My Library tab in the New Yorker app (even when you’re off-line), or across devices by visiting My Account. Please note that podcasts cannot currently be saved from the New Yorker app.

Can I share stories from the New Yorker app through e-mail or social media?

Yes. While the app is available for subscribers only, each individual story is shareable. The link will direct viewers to the story on our Web site.

How can I listen to New Yorker podcasts?

Recent podcasts can be found in the Latest Podcasts section of the app’s Audio tab, or by searching for “podcasts.”

Can I adjust the text size in the New Yorker app?

Yes. After opening the New Yorker app, navigate to Settings in the top-right corner of the screen. Select Text size, and drag the slider to adjust the text to your preferred reading size.

Are crossword puzzles available on the app?

Yes. The latest crossword is always available in the Crossword section of the app’s Top Stories feed. You can also search for more puzzles: in the top-right corner of the Top Stories feed, you’ll notice the Search icon, which resembles a magnifying glass. Select that icon and search for “crossword.” Once you are signed in, the puzzle will also save your progress in the app and on the Web site.

If I don’t have an iOS device, how can I read The New Yorker on my phone?

While the New Yorker app is not yet available for Android devices, Android users can read New Yorker stories via The New Yorker Web site or Google News.

I am a current subscriber. How can I access articles behind the paywall in the New Yorker app?

If you are a New Yorker subscriber, you will have unlimited access to the app. Please be sure to sign in on your devices—smartphones, tablets, and computers—in order to access The New Yorker uninterrupted.

If you do not have a New Yorker account, please create one using the e-mail address you used to subscribe. If we cannot verify that you have an active subscription based on your e-mail address, you may need to enter your subscription account number or mailing address.

If you purchased your subscription to The New Yorker through a third party (such as Kindle or Nook), you will not have access to the New Yorker app.

I’m signed in, but am still seeing the paywall. What should I do?

If you continue to hit the paywall after signing in, there are a few likely explanations. You may not have a subscription, your subscription may have expired, or your account may not be linked to your subscription.

To link your subscription, open the New Yorker app, select Settings in the top-right corner of the screen, then select Link your subscription. Or, visit newyorker.com/account/link. If you have trouble linking the two, we recommend signing in to Customer Care to confirm that your account number and mailing address are listed correctly.

For further assistance, please contact our Customer Care team at 855-680-3077 (332-239-6553, if outside the United States), or e-mail apps@newyorker.com.

Why doesn’t the New Yorker app keep me signed in?

Please keep in mind that social-media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages, often use their own browsers with sign-in requirements that are beyond The New Yorker’s control. (For example, if you browse Twitter on your phone, and click on a New Yorker link, the article will open in Twitter’s in-app browser.) Each of these browsers has varying abilities to remember sign-in information (or “cookies”), which may result in your having to sign in again. For the most seamless experience, we recommend browsing New Yorker stories in the New Yorker app or on newyorker.com.

To view some of The New Yorker’s particularly interactive or visual pieces, you may be required to sign in to the New Yorker app again, though this should be rare.

I am trying to subscribe, but the system says I already have an account. How do I fix this?

You may have a duplicate account, in which case our staff would be happy to assist you. Please e-mail apps@newyorker.com, or call 855-680-3077 (332-239-6553, if outside the United States).

I tried to create an account but am seeing an error message that says my subscription is already associated with one. What can I do?

If your subscription is already associated with an account, please sign in to that account. If you have trouble recalling which e-mail address is associated with your subscription, please contact us at 855-680-3077 (332-239-6553, if outside the United States), or e-mail apps@newyorker.com.

I’m trying to link my subscription, but keep getting rejected. What can I do?

Make sure you are signed in, and that the address you entered is the exact address associated with your subscription. If you have a Canadian address, make sure to enter your postal code without any spaces.

If you purchased a digital-only subscription through an app on an iPhone, you will need to link your subscription using the same app. If you have any trouble, please contact us at 855-680-3077 (332-239-6553, if outside the United States), or e-mail apps@newyorker.com.

What should I do if the New Yorker app crashes?

Try closing any other apps that are running in the background of your device. You might also try common troubleshooting techniques:

  • Force-quit the app, then reopen it.
  • Turn your device off, then back on.
  • Delete and reinstall the app.

If the issue persists, please let us know by navigating to Settings in the top-right corner of the Top Stories tab and selecting the Support email, apps@newyorker.com.

My question is not listed here. Where can I go for further information?

If you have further questions about the New Yorker app or Web site, please e-mail us at apps@newyorker.com or call 855-680-3077 (or 332-239-6553, if outside the United States). Our team is available Monday through Friday, 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. E.T., and Saturday through Sunday, 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. E.T.

If you purchased a subscription through the New Yorker app and would like to manage your subscription, questions should be directed to Apple Customer Support, as The New Yorker is limited in its ability to view or change Apple payments.
