Ladies, are you noticing more sagging skin and wrinkles on your neck as you have gotten older? I just started to notice how my neck has aged over the past year and thought I would address ways to hide the aging neck without resorting to plastic surgery.
Why does our neck age?
As we get older we start to lose collagen, our necks begin to thin and lose its elasticity.
Unfortunately, necks are seldom protected from sun exposure by sunscreen. Even when I wear SPF 30 or higher my decolletage and neck tend to burn first.
Gravity and muscle activity also take a toll on our necks. I love the scene from My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 when the sisters pulled their necks for a photo. I totally got that scene.
And all of this while everything from above is falling down on top of the jawline. The result is a neck that is crinkly, loose, falling, full of wrinkles, and with a loose jawline. Just lovely.
Hide Your Aging Neck with a Scarf
This year I fell back in love with wearing scarves if I didn’t like how the top looked on me. Scarves are probably the nicest way to hide our necks and frame our faces with more added color.
This rope style infinity scarf from Necknots has been worn so many times with so many of my tops because of it’s camouflaging abilities as well as it’s uniqueness.

I actually wore a long silky leopard print wrap from Chico’s like a scarf for this Thanksgiving post with my granddaughters. I was trying to find a scarf that matched this camel colored dolman sleeve oversized sweater and decided on the long scarf.

Wear Multi-strand Necklaces and Longer necklaces to Hide Your Aging Neck
I tend to purchase multistrand necklaces to add layers to camouflage my decolletage. Single strands won’t do the trick.
Avoid chokers and short necklaces, but longer, chunky statement necklaces finishing on or below the breastbone will draw the eye downwards away from your neck.
Take Care of Your Aging Neck
Exercising your neck muscles to tone your skin has mixed results but it doesn’t hurt to try them. Chewing gum and kissing the sky is the easiest way to tone your neck muscles.
Many women lavish cream and sunscreen on their faces but neglect their necks. Don’t make that mistake; apply the same hydrating, line-plumping, spot-fading, collagen-boosting cleansers, serums, and creams from hairline to collarbone — and right down to your bra, enabling your chest to reap the benefits, too.
