Forecasting trends is a key part of marketing and design strategies in the fashion and textiles industries. Anticipating where the market will be in future gives the designer an important commercial tool. The course covers forecasting of fashion and textile concepts and introduces you to a working perspective of the fashion industry.

Details

Topics covered:

  • You will look at events and information, and through group discussion you will analyse and define trends with improving confidence.
  • You will experiment with visual research and presentation techniques.
  • Individual work projects will be set for you to develop forecast concept boards, which will include personal inspiration and trade research, with fabric, colour and garment direction.

Materials

  • Notebook/Sketchbook or paper to collect research notes and observations
  • LaptopPencil and penA4 folder for collecting hand-out information throughout the course
  • Any photos, tear-sheets, images and/or written articles that relate to a current trend of interest to you
  • An object or an image that inspires you now
  • A small (passport-size) photograph of yourself

As the course progresses you will also need:

  • Photos, tear-sheets and images (such as magazines or your own sources)
  • Collected materials for colour
  • Fabric cuttings (possibly, not essential)
  • Card to mount work
  • Folder or portfolio
  • Ruler and set square
  • Scissors
  • Matt tape / magic tape

Additional materials may be required to enable the production of your project. This will become evident as your work progresses.
