As someone who started out their own culinary magazine, I learned that it’s important to read up on what trends are happening. It’s part of the job, and I decided to subscribe to a bunch of culinary magazines to see what others are doing.

One of the more recent ones I subbed to was EatingWell. The best way to describe it was as a copycat of Food & Wine. It had cool interest stories, fun food trends, and a lot of gourmet global recipes.

Lo and behold, shortly after I subscribed, I got a notice in the mail saying that the last issue of EatingWell would be issued out in February of 2022. It then thanked me for paying for my subscription.

Gee, I wish they’d have told me before I subscribed at the start of the year. Either way, the actual magazine, stylized as EatingWell is gone.

EatingWell is the most recent magazine title to be on the chopping block of Dotdash Meredith. The major news company has been working to consolidate their titles, and unfortunately, EatingWell did not make the cut.

The print magazine version is gone, and 200 employees got laid off as a result. However, that’s not the end of EatingWell. The magazine, much like many others, has decided to go fully digital. So, it pulled a Playboy.

Personal Note: Oddly enough, I actually had applied for a job with Meredith and was rejected a while back. It was for a culinary site. It has me wondering whether I dodged a bullet as a freelancer.

Technically, it didn’t. It just went all-digital, and that’s kind of a major deal nowadays. Major media companies are increasingly focused on getting their fair share of the tech space.

For the record, EatingWell is still a major brand. It’s still a great online publication and has a fair number of readers. Most company owners would love to be able to get that kind of viewership.
