Professions in Dragonflight will be significantly different than how they worked in basically every other expansion, there is a major overhaul to the whole system. There are new specializations for each profession, crafted gear with different qualities, new profession equipment, new secondary stats, and Crafting Orders. This page overviews how these new profession systems work in Dragonflight.
The new UI is a bit daunting to look at with all the new elements added, I'll try to explain what each part of the UI does.

Crafting Details
- Recipe Difficulty: This shows you how much skill is required to make a recipe at the highest quality. (you can read more details on quality below)
- Skill: This is your current profession skill. It comes from your base profession skill, specializations, profession equipment, racials, and high-quality reagents.
- Inspiration: Each time you craft something, there is a chance you get Inspired and craft the recipe with some bonus profession skill, so you can basically craft an item with higher quality than you could normally. This stat is only helpful when you craft recipes with higher Recipe Difficulty than your current Skill.
- Resourcefulness: You have a chance to use fewer reagents.
- Multicraft: You have a chance to craft additional items. (doesn't work on crafted gear, only consumables, and reagents)
You can get Inspiration, Resourcefulness, and Multicraft from Profession equipements, Enchants, and Specializations.
Quality and Expected Quality
Every newly crafted equipment will have 5 different qualities. Crafted Reagents and consumable items will have 3 different qualities.Higher quality equipment will have higher ilvl, while higher quality consumables will give you more stat or last longer.
If you hover the little icons near the bar, then you can see what kind of items you can get at higher quality.
If you hover over the Expected Quality bar, you can see how much skill you need to reach the next quality.
Optional and Finishing Reagents
Optional Reagents are used to set your desired secondary stats, craft higher ilvl items, and they can also add a couple of unique bonuses.
Finishing Reagents can be used to get extra Inspiration, Skill, Multicraft, or Resourcefulness when you craft an item.
For example, you can add 
Illustrious Insight to add +30 Skill. This can be really useful if you only miss a few skill points to craft an item at higher ilvl.
Using higher Quality Reagents
Reagents gathered by Miners, Skinners, and Herbalists will also have 3 different qualities. (there are some exceptions)
Using higher-quality reagents can give you a huge boost to your Skill. As you can see in the example pictures below, just by changing the Bronze quality reagents to Gold, I gained 100 Skill.
But in the example below, I didn't actually reach Silver Quality even with the highest quality materials, so it would be better for me to use the lower quality reagents and save some gold. I would have to level up my profession a bit and gain a few skill points from specializations if I wanted to craft this recipe at Silver Quality.

Gathering Professions
Gathering Professions have a slightly different UI and have a few more extra profession stats.
- Primary Reagent Difficulty: Determines how much skill is required to start gathering this reagent at the highest quality.
- Skill: This is your current profession skill. It comes from your base profession skill, specializations, profession equipment, and racials.
- Finesse: You have a chance to gather more reagents.
- Deftness: Increases your gathering speed.
- Perception: Gives you a chance to get rarereagentswhile gathering. For example, finding Khaz’gorite in a Serevite mining node.
The description of Primary Reagent Difficulty is a bit misleading in the in-game UI. The number there shows you the breakpoint where you stop getting Bronze quality reagents and start getting Gold quality reagents. It does not mean every single herb/ore/leather you get will be gold quality. You will get very few of them if you are exactly at Primary Reagent Difficulty.
Refining Herbs, Ores, Leathers
Every gathering profession can Refine reagents into higher quality. But these spells are locked behind Specializations, you don't learn them by default. All of them work the same way, you can refine 5x Reagents into 1x Reagent, which is one quality higher than the reagents you used for refinement.
Profession Equipement
Profession Tools and Accessories will give you bonuses to profession Skill, Multicraft, Inspiration, Crafting Speed, Finesse, Deftness, Perception, and Resourcefulness.
Profession Specializations
Every primary Profession in Dragonflight has 3 or 4 Specializations. You don't have to do any quests to unlock specializations, you will unlock them by leveling your profession.
- Choosing one specialization won't lock you out from choosing the others, you can have all of them with high enough profession skill.
- You will unlock the first Specialization at skill 25 and the second at 50.
- If your profession has 3 specializations, then you will unlock the 3rd at 100, but if you have 4, then you will unlock the 3rd at 75 and 4th at 100.
Dragon Isles Profession Knowledge
Dragon Isles Profession Knowledge points are the "talent points" that you can put into your profession specialization to learn a new skill, stats, and bonuses.
You get one Dragon Isle Profession Knowledge point when you craft any item or gather a herb/ore/leather for the first time. But after that, every source is something with a weekly reset, so pretty much all profession Knowledge gains will be time-gated.
Profession Crafting Orders
Crafting Orders are a new way to request another player to craft something for you for almost any Dragon Isles crafting recipe. The interface basically looks like the Auction House, it's very easy to use.
- All reagents must be provided by the one who posted the Crafting Order.
- Completing a crafting order as a crafter will cost you nothing, and you can gain skill points in your professions. (if the recipes would normally give you skill points)
- You will also be able to customize the order by including various Optional Reagents depending on the recipe, dictating exactly what you want to be crafted. For example, many equipment recipes will allow you to specify secondary stats.
- There are Public and Personal Crafting Orders. Public ones can be completed by anyone, but Personal orders can only be completed by the person you send them to.
Item Recrafting in Dragonflight
Every crafting profession can recraft an already-crafted item. This is very useful once you gain higher profession skill because you don't have to craft your items again, you can recraft them at a higher ilvl for a fraction of the cost.
- Recrafting items don't reroll secondary stats unless you use optimal reagents.
- You can add optional reagents that increase ilvl.
- Non-crafters can use recrafting via the usage of the Crafting Order system, but this feature currently only works for Personal Crafting Orders and not Public Orders. You will have to find a guild mate or friends or look for someone on the trade chat.
