It depends on a woman’s attitude.
Men often say that they prefer women who “don’t wear makeup.” But is this actually true?
I would argue that it is — and isn’t.
One, it can often be thought of as “false advertising” where a woman uses makeup to drastically change her appearance.
This is where jokes like “take her swimming on the first date” come from.
The idea here is that some women might use makeup to completely hide their true appearance. And these days, makeup can do a lot. A skilled makeup artist can entirely alter a person’s face — from the shape of their cheekbones to their skin tone and texture, to the size of their lips.
For men, meeting a woman who is a 10/10 with a full face of makeup leaves them wondering if she’s significantly less attractive without it.
(And she very well might be.)
There is also the underlying assumption that women who wear a lot of makeup are “high maintenance.”
The age-old trope of women taking forever to get ready exists because many women are known for taking an hour (or more) just to put their face on.
These types of women are typically known to care a lot about their makeup, hair, and nails — all of which are expensive and time-consuming to maintain.
For a lot of men, this type of woman is too much effort to keep up with.
Finally, women who wear a lot of makeup are often perceived as deeply insecure.
Makeup can be used as a mask — a tool to hide the parts of ourselves that we’re afraid to show the world.
Some women focus so heavily on makeup and altering their appearance because they are deeply insecure and need a way to make themselves feel better.
