Destiny 2: What The Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst Does & How To Find It (2024)

Izanagi's Burden is a very popular weapon among the fanbase in Destiny 2. Even after last year's nerf, the sniper rifle still serves as a staple in many Gambit matches thanks to its boss-killing potential. The ability to one-hit kill Invaders with a body shot is also a nice touch.

Odds are players will want to take the time to get the Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst. With the Season of the Chosen, doing this has become much easier and cut out a significant amount of grind. For players wanting the Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst here’s what it does and how to find it.

Updated on March 4, 2022, by Anastasia Maillot: A lot has changed with the arrival of Destiny 2's newest expansion, The Witch Queen. The meta has shifted from fusion rifles and opened up to other types of DPS weapons, from rocket launchers to even sniper rifles and some linear fusion rifles that still cling to their crowns. While it's certainly not the best time ever for sniper rifles, Exotics like the Izanagi's Burden are likely to start seeing more use in a meta as open and as undefined as season 16's currently is, with the exception of Void 3.0. So, with all this in mind, here's an updated guide on the Izanagi's Burden sniper rifle catalyst and a short analysis on where it might see use.

How To Get Izanagi's Burden Sniper Rifle In Season 16

Destiny 2: What The Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst Does & How To Find It (1)

The sniper rifle can be bought at the Monument to Lost Lights in the Tower. To buy it, players will need to have the following materials:

  • 1 Exotic Cipher
  • 150,000 Glimmer
  • 250 Spinmetal Leaves
  • 2 Ascendant Shards

What It Does

The Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst provides a perk called Peerless Edge. Peerless Edge does one simple thing:

  • Increase Honed Edge damage when four bullets are consumed.

Honed Edge is an ability where players can hold down reload to consume bullets to increase the amount of damage dealt with the next shot. The Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst provides a 20% buff to Honed edge’s 100% buff per bullet consumed. In this case, players are looked at an initial 400% increase followed by a 20% increase of the total damage.

How To Get It

Destiny 2: What The Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst Does & How To Find It (3)

The process of getting Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst was a lot more complicated in the Menagerie. Since the end of the Menagerie and the start of the Beyond Light and The Witch Queen era of Destiny 2, the catalyst can now be earned by engaging in playlist activities. Players should focus on Gambit, Crucible and strikes to eventually see this catalyst drop randomly.

To obtain the Catalyst players simply need to play playlist matches until it drops from one of the enemies they kill. There are no concrete data on what the odds of it dropping are. Some players have reported only needing to get a handful of kills and others are hundreds in and still nothing. It seems rare with no real way to increase your odds.

Upgrading The Catalyst

Once the Catalyst drops, players will need to upgrade it in order to maximize its potential. To do this players will need to defeat 500 enemies using Izanagi’s Burden. The simplest way to do this is to pick a farming area with low-level enemies and go to town.

The Altars of Sorrow on the moon is a great spot to start. Players should put on Special ammo finisher mods to ensure they have plenty of ammo for their Izanagi's Burden while grinding the catalyst.

Tips For Farming The Catalyst

Destiny 2: What The Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst Does & How To Find It (5)

Admittedly, it’ll take some time as Izanagi’s Burden is a sniper rifle best-suited for Gambit. But it shouldn’t be too bad. Players may opt to simply incorporate it into their regular play, which is strongly recommended in Gambit matches. Either way, once the 500 kills are obtained the Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst will be ready to go.

As stated before, there’s no real way to ensure a drop or even improve the odds of a drop. The best thing to do is simply play the game and see if it happens.

For efficiency sake, players should consider pursuing some other activity and hope the Catalyst appears in the meantime. There are a number of other Catalysts that take some time to earn. Players might want to go after the Witherhoard Catalyst or perhaps chase down the Dead Man’s Tale Catalyst while they’re waiting for the Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst to drop.

Is Izanagi's Burden And Its Catalyst Worth It?

Destiny 2: What The Izanagi’s Burden Catalyst Does & How To Find It (6)

The community of Destiny 2 is still undecided on what the best, ultimate DPS weapon for this season is. However, sniper rifles have shown some promising results. In particular, the Izanagi's Burden could be a great addition to a player's arsenal when dealing with bosses using a double Special weapon build.

These are usually situational builds, but given the sheer power the Izanagi's Burden can have with its catalyst unlocked, it's worth a try to have someone in the fireteam run this weapon during damage phases. In essence, it's a weapon best used in PVE, and definitely won't be a priority for players more geared towards PVP activities.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
