One week after her twin sister Shawn tearfully bowed out of a head-to-headchallenge against her on the latest season of Lifetime's "Project Runway," Claire was booted from the show. She admitted tohaving a tape measure at the apartment where she was stayingwith the show's other contestants.

But Claire said that was accidental.

The tape measure was in her pocket after a day of filming in the show's workrooms, she said. She'd forgotten it was there and had it at the apartmentfor "a matter of hours" before "disposing" of it, she said.

On the show she told host Tim Gunn she used the tape to measure a few pieces of clothing, but Monday Claire saidshe never used it in the apartment.

"Once I got rid of it, I didn't think it would be a big deal," Claire said Monday.

She was wrong. On the latest episode, which aired Oct. 12, news that shehad a tape measure outside of the show's workrooms, a violation of the show's rules, came out during an on-air disagreement with other contestants and the show's judges, Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Zac Posen.

Claire admitted to having it, and Gunn asked her to leave the competition.

It ends the Grand Ledge twins' latest reality television show run.Two years ago they competed and won VH1's "Twinning," taking home $222,222.22 to invest in their clothing business, Shock and Awww.

The controversial exit on 'Runway' was "frustrating," Claire said. Fellow competitors accused her on air of "ripping off" designs she had in her own closet, but she said there's no truth to that.

"Of course you're going to seek inspiration from things around you," she said. Other contestants did the same thing, Claire said.

"I want this competition to be as fair and equitable as possible, and it was very saddening to me when everything transpired."

The same day the episode aired, both twins took a humorous approach to the controversy. They posteda photo of Claire reading a copy of the book "Bad Girls Throughout History: 100 Remarkable Women Who Changed the World," by Ann Shen, to Shock and Awww's Instagram and Facebook accounts.

"Reading up on my new social club," the post read.

Both twins, 27, who interned with designer Betsy Johnson in New York when they were 21 and designed and created outfits for Katy Perry, said their "Project Runway" experience was largely positive.

"I don't want this one incident to cloud the entire experience," Claire said.

Shawnagreed.

"I don't want to dwell on things when it was otherwise positive," she said.

From their home in Grand Ledge, where they grew up, they're already making plans to expand items offered through their online fashion line, and they're hoping to bring those clothes to stores.

"I think we're going to bring Shock and Awww to some major metropolitan areas," Shawn said.

Both say they don't plan to stepaway from the limelight anytime soon. They won't rule out another go at reality television.

"Truthfully, getting out in front of people is what's going to help us be successful," Shawn said. "Absolutely."
