Catherine, the Princess of Wales never met her mother-in-law Princess Diana but they share many similarities - The Australian Women's Weekly (2024)

When Prince William and Catherine Middleton stood in front of the barrage of cameras to announce their engagement to the world, royal fans couldn’t help but notice the parallels between them and William’s parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Not only did both royal brides-to-be wear blue for their announcements but William chose to pop the question with his mother’s sapphire and diamond ring.

“Obviously I would have loved to have met her and obviously she’s an inspirational woman to look up to,” Catherine said of her “inspirational” late mother-in-law in her engagement interview.

William added, however, that there was “no pressure” for his future wife to be Diana’s replacement, as so many people had drawn comparisons between the two.

“Like Kate said it’s about carving your own future. No one is going to try to fill my mother’s shoes and what she did was fantastic. It’s about making your own future and your own destiny and Kate will do a very good job of that.”

Though they both have their individual qualities, the pair have a lot in common.

From their fashion to their maternal and loving relationships with their children, it seems the two most important women in Prince William’s life will always have a bond.
