The countdown to Coachella, the music and arts festival held in the Coachella Valley, has begun. The popularevent takes place in the middle of April in Indio, California and features dozens of bands from various genres, interactive events, fun and games.
The Coachella festival takes placeeach year in Indio, California.
While some participants can stay at local hotels, many decide to camp out in the Coachella campground, located on the Empire Polo Club polo grounds. Even in mid-spring this part of the Colorado desert can hit temperatures of 90 to 100+ degrees.
Coachella does not allow large RVs or trailers in the campground. But you can bring avan, VW bus or SUV and make it your decorative hangout. Each campsite at the Coachella campground measures 10×30 feet, so there is actually a lot of room to spread out.
Coachella also allows campsite pass holders to cram as many people as will comfortably fit into a vehicle, so it’s a great way to save money at the event.
Create your own shade for the hot desert days and cool nights.
2. Get a Good “Hat” and Good “Boots”
No, not cowboy hats or boots. The “hat” and “boots” are actually for your campsite. Having a shade structure (no branding logos, please) like an EZ-Up with a good pair of stakes and wind walls will give your camp decent shade throughout the day.
You can keep your camp even cooler and less muddy with a good ground cover, like a few outdoor rugs or some drop cloths.
Take advantage of the California sun and bring your own solar camp shower.
3. Bring Your Own Shower
While a campsite pass allows you access to the free shower pods at the campground, bringing your own camp shower is a good way to avoid the lines.
You can also use the shower to cool off your campmates and your campground neighbors.
Coachella vendors serve up really tasty food.
4. You Won’t Need to Bring as Much Food as You’d Think
Local food vendors are allowed at the event, so food is everywhere. You can save room in your car by bringing your basic food necessities and snacks and splurge on pizzas or vegan dishes from Coachella Valley businesses.
Find your camp easily with decorations, flags and lights.
5. Decorate Your Campsite
As you can see from the photos, the campground begins to look like a blur (especially after a night of dancing).
To find your way back to camp at night, decorate it with string lights, light up lawn decorations, inflatable toys, EL-wire or flags.
If you want real luxury, get a glamping tipi at Lake Eldorado.
Of course, you can really rev up your camping experience and stay at the luxurious Lake Eldorado with 24 hour concierge service, private showers and glamping tipis.
NO Glass Of Any Kind (Bottles, Large Mirrors, Containers, Solar Panels, Lights, etc.)NO Prescription Medication (must be in properly labeled containers that match the holder's ID. No pillboxes.) NO Propane (Propane stoves allowed in Car Camping only.
Blankets, sheets, tapestries. Not only does a good tapestry look cool around camp, but it'll also do a great job of providing some shade in the hotter midday hours. Additionally, blankets are perfect for keeping you warm in camp when the sun's gone to its own private rave.
Passes are transferrable and easily sold. A regular car camping spot is $102 + fees, a preferred camping is 266 + fees. A tent camping spot (for those without cars) is $102 + fees You need one camping pass per vehicle – but you can have as many people / tents in a single spot.
Auxiliary Items – Hammer, zip ties, flashlight, nylon rope, pocket knife and SUNSCREEN. It's also a good idea to bring a power strip, so that you can charge multiple appliances at the campground charging station. Sleeping Bag and Air Mattress – This is an obvious necessity for your campsite.
Shelter comes first. Prioritize setting up your tent first, and in an area that is flat, vegetation-free, shaded and wind-buffered, with good drainage. Make sure there's a good spot to keep food in an airtight container away from your sleeping area and safe from wildlife. Keep essentials handy.
Yes, food and alcohol at Coachella are expensive. If you are camping on-site, the good news is you can bring food and drink with you in your vehicle (other than glass bottles) and save a lot of money by eating most of your meals there. However, you are not allowed to bring alcohol into the festival itself.
So if you're a person that doesn't mind waiting in line, doesn't mind the lack of privacy, doesn't mind a potential cold water shower, doesn't mind a short shower, doesn't mind a dirty shower, and doesn't mind paying $10 a shower, the Coachella provided showers may be a great option for you.
Don't forget to hydrate your body before and duringCoachella. Bring a water bottle (preferably not metal) with you and fill it up at the drinking fountains. The desert heat and booze will suck the moisture out of you faster than saying the word “Coachella”, so drink more water than you think you'll need.
How is car camping different from tent camping? It's simple—you sleep in your car instead of a tent. Car camping is a low-barrier and comfortable way to enjoy the outdoors without investing in expensive camping gear. But even when car camping, you can still choose to pull up to a campground and set up a tent.
Please be prepared to wait. If you must leave Camping before 2am on Sunday night, you need to depart before 9pm. Car Camping and Tent Camping areas are open to visitation by and all Coachella attendees. Lake Eldorado access is restricted to Lake Eldorado guests.
This glamping option comes furnished with all the sleeping or lounging essentials plus golf cart service between the campground and stages, air-conditioned restroom and showers, breakfast and late-night snacks in the air-conditioned Safari Lounge, and of course Guest Passes to Coachella Weekend One or Two.
You may bring food & drink. Campers 21+ may bring 1 case of beer cans or box of wine. No glass allowed. Must be 18+ or with a parent/legal guardian to camp.
No exit during lockdown hours Fri-Sun 9pm-2am. If you need to leave Camping Companion Parking prior to 2am on any night, you must do so before 9pm. All hours are subject to change based on safety concerns and traffic conditions. If you drive out, you will forfeit your spot.
