In Arthurian legend,Caliburnus is the Latin name for King Arthur's legendary sword.[1]
In the Lords of Avalon series, Caliburn is one of a pair of swords with Excalibur. Caliburn is the bad counterpart to Excalibur. The one who wields it cannot be killed, nor can he bleed so long as he holds the scabbard that sheaths it.
“ | The two swords had been created together in order to bring balance so that no one Merlin would be the more powerful. Caliburn was the steel and Excalibur was the stone. One sword to rule and the other to destroy. One a sword of light and the other a sword of darkness. | ” |
Kerrigan found Caliburn when he was eighteen years old, and Morgen Le Fey found him immediately thereafter. Under the wicked influence of both Morgen and Caliburn, Kerrigan became an inhuman demon. Centuries later, Seren stole it from him, but she resisted its evil influence long enough to return it to Kerrigan. Following her example, he eventually surrendered the sword to the goddess Brea. Brea, in turn, gave the sword back to Seren, who used it to bring Kerrigan back from the dead.
