Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. As a young child of the age of 8, her father abandoned the family. Along with experiencing heartbreak, she also experienced trauma. What happened to her as a child, shaped her into the person she grew up to be in her adult years. Hepburn lived during World War II, experiencing first hand how brutal the world can be, she took what she experienced and used it as she grew up. Stuck for days without food, suffered from malnutrition, and lived in a dangerous home. "I can testify to what UNICEF means to children, because I was among those who received food and medical relief right after World War II" she states, (UNICEF 1). From this, Audrey learned what it was like to not take things for granted and that there is always hope, even in the worst circ*mstances. Giving back was what Audrey wanted to do. She felt an emotional connection to those who did not have the normal necessities to life and she felt as though it was her as a child who UNICEF saved and she wanted others to know the feeling of relief. Taking what she suffered with and learned, allowed it to impact her later on in life.

Because of her effort and devotion to UNICEF, she was named Goodwill Ambassador for the International Children's Relief Organization for UNICEF in 1988. Although she had no medical experience, no cultural understandings, and no economic experience, she was a mother to the kids who were not blessed with one.

From her childhood, to the day she passed away, Audrey Hepburn was known as a humble and selfless person. She put others before herself, she met their needs before her own. As UNICEF took care of her as a child, she took care of others, even if it was the slightest bit. "Audrey represented the agency in many capacities, not only appearing at public occasions to support the good cause of UNICEF but also traveling widely to the world's trouble spots to assess the situation of children" (UNICEF 1). Although her career was coming to a close with acting, she did not take that as a advantage to not start something else. She was unstoppable, she took what she felt was right and spread it out to the rest of the world. This shows that not one did she do it for the greater good, but she wanted others to see what brutality is out there as well.
